He has to separate Quintana early otherwise it won't work. Quintana's strength is his team, Froomes his endurance I think. He knows his legs are better than Quintana's unless Quintana is bluffing yesterday. If he was he bluffed too much as he later said he would only use a minute.

He didn't have much endurance on Aramon-Formigal.
Also, Quintana has been the best climber in the race by a decent margin.

I'm talking about endurance, not outclimbing. Froome can't win waiting for final climb.

Froome's endurance relatively is pretty mediocre. He can keep a really high pace for a long time but like we have seen in every properly hard long race he's ever done his endurance definitely isn't his strongest point.
