If Froome doesn't finish first out of the GC guys tomorrow, he's got no chance of winning overall. As if the parcours wasn't perfect enough for him, it's 35ºC. Has to be the favourite for the stage, especially as there's not much chance of the break succeeding on a route like this

Maybe you should wait to see the time trial and then asses chances.

That's 4.8km at 11% on the dot. It should suit Chavito and Froome nicely. Brambi and Atapuma might also do well, and we might actually have a bona fide Movistar leader by sunset.

The mighty TJVG goes in the break, carrying a backpack with 50 water bottles, and then drops everyone like Landis on his ride to Morzine in 2006 at the TDF.

Have a feeling Froome will demolish everyone. Now that Contador hurts, I'm hoping that Chavito will be his (true) main challenger. Quintana is quietly doing his business. He looked really good so far.

I think that Quintana looks slightly better than Froome and has much, much better team. He is favourite for this one imho. The only problem is that he might lose 1min in ITT and Froome is genius at limiting his losses when he is weaker so it wont be easy to pull back in the mountains even with strength advantage

I just can't believe that Froome might actually win 2 consecutive GTs in a season.

For me, from an athletic perspective, it would be the highest achievement of any GC rider in history, since specialization is intrinsic to the sport, just like how you manage your shape during the year, the most important aspect of a rider (peaks).

However, it wouldn't have the drama of Pantani. On the other hand, all of Pantani's results are nullified at this point, since he was a fraud, and we are in 2016 - More specialization, even more care with shape, etc.

Who knew.

Yea, cause anything done pre 2010 was done by uneducated brutes that knew nothing of how to train or eat properly
I do aagree that specialisation is becoming more of a factor now as compared to say 50 years ago, but to say people like Indurain and Panatani wasn't specilized, or knew how to peak seem to be wrong.

A double back then isn't as impressive as a double now. You've got to apply the era correction factor to compare things

Well that was complete overhype and the Vuelta has barely started yet, Froome could easily fade.

Having said that I think a double gets a tiny harder with every passing year.

I think Froome can definitely take this Vuelta. I think he's stronger than he's ever been and the opposition doesnt look that great in this edition. I dont think he had a very hard race in this years tour unlike in previous years so I think he may have a fair bit still left in the tank. He certainly doesnt give the impression he's feeling worn out

More news from the finish at the top of La Camperona, the wind has changed direction and the riders will have a headwind if it stays like this. Sounds like it is fairly changeable out there so it may be coming at them from a different angle by the time they hit the in a little over an hour.
