Yep, a hurt Chaves, an out-of-juice Contador, the tired Movistar odd coupling, and Froome, who would win it on the back of his time trialing if he could merely hold on in the mountains. Thankfully he's never been one to just hold on in the mountains if he has the strength to attack. Which he might not have.

So our best chance for meaningful attacks might also mean that the race could be settled by Saturday. Maybe Meintjes or Latour will make this interesting?

Freakin' attackers like Fraile are rarely rewarded, so the number of professionnal victories doesn't matter for judge him... For example, a guy like Txurruka is a great rider with big spirit who's got more collarbone fractures than great wins.

Txurruka isn't a 'great' rider by any means. He is (or, rather, he used to be) decent, pretty good, but certainly not great.

Txurruka isn't a 'great' rider by any means. He is (or, rather, he used to be) decent, pretty good, but certainly not great.

But weirdly since I've tuned in he's barely mentioned Atapuma despite hyping him to win last year's Vuelta and also possibly the Giro this year.

Well, banged up. Contador rode over him, after all. But as stated above by Gigs, nothing major.

I'm looking at the GC standings and the only other names I see in with a shout are Igor Anton, Michele Scarponi, Sammy Sanchez (the GenX trio), Gianluca Brambilla, Darwin Atapuma, Leo Konig, Simon Yates, Davide Formolo, George Bennett and Andrew freaking Talansky. All of which are guys who wouldn't only settle for a top 10 but probably, at this point in their careers, throw a party to celebrate. Bar maybe two guys, everyone on that top 10 is going to be so happy to be there.
