Eh, why are cannondale not in the break? I thought the whole point of their team was to be in these kind of breaks. Come to think of it I think this is a missed opportunity for a lot of teams, or were a lot of breaks chased down so they only let 4 go that I missed earlier?

No, break got away easily. Makes no sense at all. On the other hand, it's a good thing for the race between the gc guys on Etna.
Combination of completely flat roads and a strong team in pink. Villela and Jauregi were chasing for a while but mown down by Quickstep

Jauregui and Schlegel according to Sporza. And those 4 guys got away at the first attempt. That means nobody had interest to be in it, not that Quick Step being a strong team is the reason.

Van Rensburg, not nice.

He would've got it anyway but yea that's a douche and blatant move. Not winning fans with that one.
What did he do?

He closed Polanc in the MTF sprint... Polanc didn't appreciate that.
It was blatant, but to be honest it looked perfectly fine to me. :D

He looked over his shoulder and saw Polanc comming up (for the KOM points) and swerved across the road to stop him overtaking. Wasn't particularly dangerous but it did completely shut Polanc out.

Makes no sense to me - obviously there are countless riders who would love to 6 minutes up the road right now

Whatever happens we will have had four different leaders in four stages, which hasn't happened since 2010. Good omen?

You'd think that, but apparently not.

Chances for a breakaway win?

It's the perfect stage for a breakaway, I don't think that any of GC contenders will open fire today...

Polanc's previous Giro win was in very similar circumstances - first week MTF with flat first 50 km and weak break. Bigger ask today with a much harder finish

I know Nibali rode the Etna since he was a kid.
Wonder what was the side he took the first time he went to the top.
I think he'll take a shot. It carries more than sporting value to him.

Correct me if I am wrong. Gaviria has popped out to grab some points twice but today is a Category D stage and all the points have been mopped up by the break. If I am correct, you would think his team would have let him know.

So that's why Sbragli hasn't been contesting them, I thought it was a little strange.
