Denifl seems to be a really nice guy, so i'm really happy for him. Ciccone finally getting into form, i like that as well. Tomorrow anything could happen, it's quite a weird stage.

That stream brought me back to the good old days of watching bizarre and only semi comprehensible streams of the Tour de St Luis.
TOP TOP TOP TOP PARA DANI DIAZ
TOP TOP TOP TOP PARA CONTADORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Good times!

Absolutely huge for Denifl. Especially after his long suffering period with his knee problems. I mean he already showed with place 7 at Paris-Nice GC that he is capable of great things, but to be honest, looking at the results this year i feared his career is more or less over.

It's interesting how successful Cannondale have been in this race (up until today of course) with a team containing neither climbers nor sprinters, only rouleurs and puncheurs.
I would say that there is nothing surprising in the fact that riders like Vanmarcke or Slagter can shine against this kind of opposition.

Both have ridden against worse opposition than this and failed to shine and it isn't only them who have been riding well - the team has imposed itself on multiple stages, creating echelons, setting up attacks etc.

Of course the fact that there's an uneven field quality matters, but there are 5 WT teams, 6 PCT teams and a high level Italian national selection here, it's not like it's a small Spanish race where Movistar and Caja Rural effectively have no rivals. It seems to me that it's a combination of having one of the strongest squads with having a selection that is very well equipped to control or pull apart a peloton.

Apparently Debesay was the only one who tried to go with Miguel Lopez, but he cracked badly. The climb was probably too hard and too steep for him, usually he's good on this kind of stages.
Nice to see that Ciccone is back on track after the heart operations.
