So is Taaramae the GC favorite now? He has more than a minute on Lopez and almost two on Zakarin.

Looked a bit chubby in the prologue to be honest. But Eibegger and Grossschartner struggle aalways a bit on the real high mountains. Delio Fernandez is not a bad climber.

But i still think Lopez is the favourite.
Yes, Fernandez and Eibegger schould be good, Großschartner's form is still a bit of a question mark. This year Denifl hasn't climbed well, so I don't think he has a chance. If Taaramäe finds his Tiefenbachferner legs he should e the big favourite.
From what I've heard the riders really enjoyed the short uphill prologue because it's something totally different.

Slagter wins the stage ahead of Debesay, Miguel Lopez 3rd and Tusveld 4th.
Vanmarcke won the 40 men sprint for 5th place behind them.
Zakarin lost 1:47.

The stage was a lot harder than it looks on paper, the Jasenegg climb features a short section with a 24% steep ramp.

Edit: There will be a livestream for the 2 mountain stages of the official hompage of the race, that's great! :)

Great!

One more reason for Fuji to smoke them all up Kitzbuheler! Well, being serious, Superman seems out of reach but Igor seems in a fairly good shape, so I can see him fighting for second, since Zaka is nowhere to be seen and Taaramäe is inconsistent as hell.

But as usual he will disappoint me and Debesay will be the best Dimension Data rider, I better get prepared for that.

The funny thing is that Austrian Media hyped Teklehaimanot as some sort of mountain goat and contender because of holding KoM jersey's for a few days, when he's maybe the 3rd best climber that DD send to this race.
I don't know about Debesay, he's a strong rider with a big who can defend himself on a single climb, but Kitzbüheler Horn could be too hard for him.
No idea who'll be strongest Austrian rider on the mountain stages.

Yeah during the highlights of the prologue Austrian commentator peter brunner mentioned teklahaimanot as one of the overall gc contenders and when he ended up being pretty bad brunner just assumed he didn't go all out because he didn't have anorher explanation for teklhaimanot being that bad, although one could clearly see he was suffering

I expect that to be Pernsteiner.

He's probably the safest pick, but you never know.

With Lowndes 2nd, it couldn't have been hard at all.
Yes, but the guy is riding a solid race and doing well against someone like Gibbons, he probably deserves a contract at PCT level.
The final was easy and with the two big mountain stages coming up they probably took it rather easy.

Yes, I didn't mean any disrespect to him. I think he's a promising talent. But he's a huge guy, so he's always gonna struggle with climbs.

Yes, I never saw you comment as disrespectful towards him, I just wanted to point out that he's a big talent who deserves a chance to ride for a bigger team.
