Thomas fluked PN last year.
Ewan won a few sprints very early in the year against big names in a stage race that must not be named

No surprise Ewan is there - He'd be one of the leading 5 sprinters at the race - Think I saw Gaviria, Cavendish and Sagan - So maybe one or two sprinters missed an invitation.

Tom I understand, but what are Thomas and Ewan doing there?!
Thomas is a big name in cycling, especially the Anglophone cycling world. I have no doubt he would've deserved to be here had he just continued to be one of the most versatile and strongest riders in the world instead of trying to be something he never can be.

Not so strange to see Ewan here either considering the Gaviria v Ewan matchup, the young up-and-coming sprinters who duked it out on a stage last year. Ewan has also been terrific so far, the best sprinter in 2017 along with Démare IMO.

That said, obviously guys like Kwiatkowski after his magnificent Strade Bianche win and Stybar should be here. I'd definitely also pick Landa over those 2 guys, but thats cause Im biased. And Wellens, And Boonen. And Rui Costa.

I'm curious to see sagan vs gaviria in stage 2

Last year a Gaviria in fine form lost 6 minutes in the similar stage, thats just a bit harder this year, so you will likely have to settle with another Sagan vs. Van Avermaet . But ofcourse you never know with Gaviria.

That was only his second stage in a World Tour race then. He's a year older and a year better now. Not that it means that it's a given he will be up there challenging the likes of Sagan, but to me it seems pretty pointless to be comparing the results of one at that age. Huge leaps can be made within a year when you are that young.

Stage 6 is actually the perfect practice for Milan San Reno, bar the length. Though perhaps the previous two hard days will have an effect too.

I say too hard, Stybar should have a better shot.

Quintanita to get his 2nd Trident for sure!! :D

perhaps Nibs, Pinot & Mollema can offer some resistance- all depends on by how much they can gain in the TTT against Movistar.....

I'm really interested in the bumpy stages-because if ridden like a classics- those can do huge damage to any GC rider caught in a bad day.

Always looking forward to this race - one of my favorites :)

Even Aru seems to be a more serious contender than Nibali!

Quintana versus Pinot versus Dumoulin imho! The final outcome might be a closer call than it looks like on paper.

Sure he can make a huge leap, and for instance Kragh Andersen that was almost last last year in the stage could perhaps challenge too in a stage that reminds of the Oman stage he won with his leap compared to last year. Still Gaviria despite his amazing talent has not really shown anything that would suggest he can win a stage with a finish as hard as this and a comparison with last season would be stupid not to make, despite his room for big improvement. But it will for sure be interesting to see what Gaviria can or cant do in this stage.

Yes, but I wouldn't look past Rui Costa, the guy's flying right now, a top rider in one week stage races and the hilly stages should suit him well.

I'd say they're all gonna lose time to Movistar in the TTT.

Is it Spilak or Vicioso who will be Katushas leader? And who do you think will be strongest of Rosa and Landa? This is going to be a very nice race I think!
