This stage once again makes me wonder why Sagan doesn't ride the Ardennes races. He could realistically win LBL.

You either peak at Ronde and Roubaix or LBL, its impossible to peak at both, even for Sagan. If he goes for both, hell end up with winning none

No chance. A day in the middle of a stage race =/= a classic where all the specialist hill puncheurs are there and on top form. He'd have been destroyed in that sprint today by riders like Valverde and Alaphilippe - and LBL is much harder than that stage.

Maybe stupid question, but is 2 weeks for a cyclist so much, as far as peak are concerned? Isn't bigger of a problem MSR for Sagan?

I think he could do it, if Liège had the same flat run-in as Kelly or Merckx had when they won both races in one year. Nowadays Liège is just too difficult and it is in another period of racing. Still he also might have to skip Flanders.

But Jungels is only 16 seconds behind, so he's got this.

Peter can win MSR and Paris Roubaix this year, a 6th green jersey and a 3rd World Champs in a row. Then in the future he will be looking for a 7th green jersey, winning some Giro stages, LBL and Lombardia and finally a 4th Rainbow jersey. With that, he can retire with peace and love !

Sagan once again showing that cobbled classic specialist are better than everyone else. :) Besides Contador that is.

To label Sagan a cobbled classics specialist is just lazy.

No, that's what he is.

Otherwise he'd race the Ardennes classics and Lombardia.

It still baffles me how he manages to beat a bunch of climbers with a body like that. How? Pretty disappointing that GVA was nowhere to be seen tbh, you'd expect him to be there too if Sagan can stay with them. Sagan will crush everybody in De Ronde. Still hoping Boonen will manage to win a 5th PR but I can't say I am confident

Gilbert did it in 2009-2011 with great results.

But Roubaix is more important than LBL anyway. Maybe after he won it a couple of times.

Sagan doesn't stand a chance, but I wouldnt be surprised if GVA made it deep into the final. My pick is Kwito or Yates.
What about Sagan again? Think again :p :D
This man is just phenomenal. I have to confess. I also thought it was too hard for him. Actually he got dropped before the final climb for a while but managed to get back when the pace dropped a little. As Echoes says, the majority of his wins come in a bunch sprint. He/she is right. Another bunch sprint won by Sagan :p

All in all the stage was very entertaining. I'd also welcome more of this type of stages where the best classics riders (ok today it was only Sagan, but I think Kwiatek would be there too, if he didn't attack 20 times before) mix with the GC riders in the end. It was nice to see Roglic always at the front and looking comfortable. Congrats to Dennis for holding on and I'm a little surprised Pinot looked better today than yesterday. Italians nowhere to be seen again in the finale.

That's such a simplistic way of looking at things.

Sagan's much more than a cobbles specialist, if he is one. He performs phenomenally on a pletora of terrains.

Yeah, I look stupid now' dont i? :D What a performance, gonna rewatch that one.

I don't really see Sagan competing for the win in the hilly classics tbh. There's a chance he could but the cobbled classics just suit him too well to risk it imo. And he himself said that he used to look up to guys like Boonen. I don't think he's very interested in the hilly classics.

Also I'm not convinced he could battle for the win in La Flèche Wallonne or LBL. That a lot of climbing. I think guys like Alaphilippe are better than him at that. Amstel should be doable though

Alaphilippe is nowhere near the level of Sagan, even on hilly stuff.

This finish was a drag after a wall. He can't win on the wall. FW is out. I think the accumulation of climbs is quite something else, also the field is better in the ardennes but still. Would be good to see him give it a go

No chance in FW, but considering how he rode today and that guys like Gerrans have won LBL, I think that race could be possible.
