what's the use of Impey and Edmondson ???

Impey was leading out Edmondson - First time I've known that Edmondson is a sprinter - He's supposed to be a classics rider.

didn't work as had to Edmondson wasn't able to pass Impey...

What caused TJ to take his helmet off? I don't think he just randomly decided to fiddle with the straps because he was bored. No, I suppose there was an issue with the straps, and issue which - perhaps - could have actually lessened the protectiveness of the helmet. He then picked the best time - while everyone was riding relatively easily - to fix it.
He could have stopped by the side of the road and then fix it. That would have been the best time to do it.
But that way he would've lost time, being forced to sprint back to the peloton (possibly drafting cars  ) and waste some energy.
If he had stepped by the side Movistar would have increased the pace :D

Anyone else fancy TJ to hold on tomorrow? He has got 40" to play with.
teejay not losing more than 20-30 seconds to valverde tomorrow is easily imaginable. most likely, ac will win the stage with quite a small margin. i don't foresee other contenders being able to seriously distancing each other either. i'm going with something like bertie 0, thomas, teejay, valverde, martin +15-20'', zaka, froome, bardet +30''

Maybe but I think there will probably be gaps maybe twice as big as that if not more... the climb is pretty hard. TJVG will be between 3rd-5th on GC after today IMO

Then you might as well say that riders should stop by the side of the road to fix those little things they usually simply go down to the cars to fix.

It's not THAT hard. Plus he can outclimb the likes of Valverde on his day. If he has any form at all he'll hold onto his lead, IMO.

Just a thought about the whole BMC vs. Movistar (helmet off vs. push) thing.

While it perhaps was debatable whether Rojas' push gave Movistar any advantage, I'd like to see anyone try to argue that TJ taking his helmet off gave him any advange. In fact; if the peloton had suddenly started to go full-gass while TJ was fiddling with his helmet, well... I think I know who would have lost time.

Of course there's the whole safety issue, there's a reason helmet use is mandatory. However, I can't help but wonder if that rule about riders being DSQed if they take their helmets off during a race was created back when the riders weren't perhaps 100% onboard with the whole mandatory helmet use thing, and after the - brief? - period during which riders could take their helmets off if a stage ended with a MTF, to remind people that "No, you can't do that anymore." Nowadays, otoh, I don't think anyone would try to argue against helmet use.

What caused TJ to take his helmet off? I don't think he just randomly decided to fiddle with the straps because he was bored. He got it off to remove his cap that was also on his head.

Looking at the video Rojas posted, when TJ put his helmet back on, he didn't secure it with the straps. He travelled quite a way (til the video stopped at least) with his helmet not secured, so if he did come off his bike, there's a good chance his helmet would have come off before he hit the deck! Yates for the win today!
