Landa should be the strongest. I'm also expecting great things from Miguel Lopez (and Celano of course), Morton could also surprise people, he's really good at climbing in the heat. Movistar and Postonbon have their interesting young climbers who can do well, all in all it's an interesting field.

Lopez was DNF i San Sebastian. I hope thats nothing.
Rosón finished last in San Sebastian. Anybody know whats up?

I think it will be a great race. Picón Blanco is a horrible climb and we have lots of talented climbers attending. I'll go out on a limb and predict Landa, Lopez and Soler.

It looks to me like they're doing the 'old road' to Lagunas de Neila, rather than the route they usually do in Burgos or the one they did in the '98 Vuelta.

Traditional Vuelta a Burgos climb is:
el-collado.gif

Followed by this from the 8km mark to the finish (there's actually 1,3km @ 6,5% of climbing leading up to that final 6-7km climbing but I can't find an exact profile that fits on the forum. The most precise profile is the last 8km of this one:
542chmh.jpg

The 1998 Vuelta climbed directly to Collado then the left hander into the super-steep final 5km of that side:
Neila1.gif

In the usual Vuelta a Burgos stage design, they go up to Collado, then skip that steep side with a descent into Neila village, then climb the side I've shown until the marker "El Portón", before descending 1km of the 1998 profile (from El Portón to the arrow for Quintanar de la Sierra) then descend into Quintanar, and repeat the process, ascending Collado, descending to Neila, but this time continuing all the way to the summit.

This year it looks like they're climbing the side that they normally descend from El Portón to Quintanar, which is probably the easiest side of the climb in terms of the overall gradients, with only two brutal kilometres near the end, but it's also ungodly inconsistent which could help create action depending on the time gaps from Picón Blanco and considering there's no TT.

I'll play safe and predict Firsanov, I'm not picking the no-hopers that you went for ;)

Surely the only person who can defeat Igor Anton is himself
