Enric Mas rode a superb race but what was he doing
It looks like he was the stronger of the two. De la Cruz burned his matches early with his attack.
I believe so too, but if it actually was the case, he should have attacked. He didn't go for the win, he didn't help his teammate and almost got him kicked off the podium and he basically rode Lopez to the line, which is an incredibly dumb thing to do.

Question: Who decision was it - the rider or DS?

Probably the DS. They set de la Cruz up with Alaphilippe up the road, but they weren't able to get a gap. Mas stayed on Landa's wheel when this happened. My take is the plan was to use de la Cruz to see if he could isolate Landa or get away. They isolated him, but super talent or not, Mas isn't dropping Landa at 22 years old.

I also noticed Soler at the front group when with 3 km to go, so he should be fine for the Vuelta. Pedrero also with a good performance after he also climbed well in Tour de Suisse, so that was not a one off. Carapaz also showing Vuelta shape so Im not too worried.

However, Ruben Fernandez...

Thanks for your response. This strategy might be good if they had waited for another 5/6km up the climb.

As for Más, do people remember a certain Euskaltel domestique here in 2011?

Pedrero has been a surprise. He's going to be 26 soon, so his scope for improvement is relatively limited, but still, stronger in the mountains than I had him down as. Makes a good case for a GT debut.

It is normal, he is a Contador s pupil.
A stage like this, short and with just one important climb is very good for Enric, but I think his main objetive was to be second and to attack for the people to talk about him.
De la Cruz started late in cycling, as Froome, but he is a big rider, as Roson, Verona, Soler,... we have in Spainimportant riders who has not came up so far.
But for me is important to have a similar reference to Contador, it is look like Mas is very similar to him in almost everything.
