they must have changed the time cut then. If it went according to the rulebook (which states 25% cut off time) ~30 riders would be out - but you obviously can't throw out the Swiss champion :D

Great MTT, fun to watch.
Good first MTT among the pros for Fabbro, he's a pure climber who rode on a smaller Italian U23 team, his mentor is De Marchi, he should have lots of room to improve.
He's the same size as Pozzovivo and looks like a mini-Kittel. :D

He really looks like he just finished middle school.

They should definitely have a jersey for riders who still look like they're 12. Fabbro vs Chaves. sorry not sorry Nairo

According to inrng it was extended because of the warm weather.

Fabbro is 167cm tall and only 52kg, he could be the next Pozzovivo.
Last year I saw Kennaugh in person and he also looks like a middle school boy.

I actually thought he was simply a very big fan dressed up in a katusha kit.

"Big" as in, major. Not size wise.

He's clearly in line to be the next lead in the Alpecin shampoo commercials!

Yeah, that’s no surprise after the way he rode for de Ghendt

So, Bernal is paying $6 for this next stage - What am I missing?

I figure the break has not much chance because Sky must make it hard to:

(A) try to drop Roglic;
(B) if they can't drop him, then grab the bonus seconds and hope Roglic gets none.

Bernal looks the strongest on the climbs and the fastest in a sprint of GC guys.

Shouldn't he be a clear favourite at, say, $3?

you can't cheat by drafting behind a team-mate during a non-TT road stage. Maybe he'll try drafting behind a motorbike tomorrow.

Just watched the replay from Eurosport. Watching Richie Porte ride that 10km course was so beautiful. Then the youngster Bernal just comes and simply overtooks the leading time. What a stage. I dont usually like TT stages but this might up there.

Expecting Martin and Fuglsang to attack already on the second mountain tomorrow.

They are both on their last race, before the break and build up to the tour, and neither of them can use a place outside the podium for anything - so it's do or die tomorrow.

They are also both too far behind to wait for the last climb, especially with the flat finish and a Sky train wanting to work, to bring Bernal first to the line.

- and once those two go, the fireworks start, with Latour, Buchmann, Izagirre, Goncalves, Spilak, Martinez, etc going too.

Could be quite a fun day to watch, with long break aways from top level riders

stage 4: Sion - Sion 149.2 km
stage-4-profile.jpg

The first kilometres roll trough the Rhône Valley before the route turns right for a 8.9 kilometres climb at 9.4% to the thermal spa centre of Ovronnaz. The middle section of 3 kilometres is toughest with an average gradient of 11.5%, although the last 3 kilometres are not for the faint of heart either – 9.8%. The riders can take comfort as the steepest slopes of the day are behind them when they reach the summit at kilometre 17.7.

After approximately one hour the route once again moves through Sion only to follow the Rhône further upstream. At 65 kilometres the riders take a right-hander and hit the second climb, which goes to mountain village Vercorin. It’s a steady ascent of 9.6 kilometres with an average gradient of 8.1%.

Straight after the descent the road once again points uphill. The climb to Nax is also steady, yet less long and less steep – 6.6 kilometres at 6.1%. Hardly time for a breather at the top though, as shortly it’s all systems go again on the road to Suen. The first 2 kilometres go up at 8%, but the slopes flattens out and the 5.7 kilometres climb is averaging 5.2%.

More than 55 kilometres remaining and one climb left. The ascent to Les Collons amounts to 13.1 kilometres, so this is the longest drag up of the day. The average gradient is 6.5% with both the first and the last five kilometres at over 7%.

From Les Collons to the line in Sion is 27.4 kilometres. This is mostly on descent with some minor kicks up, while the last kilometres in the Rhône Valley are on the flat.

We have an explosive start today. What I think Team Sky should do is make it a very tough start with the usual choo-choo train. Chances are Kruijswijk (although Clement and de Tier could also survive) will be the only one left to protect and help Roglic. Then proceed to put Rosa and/or Castroviejo in the break. Easier said than done, but I don't think they should put all their eggs in Egan's basket just yet. That would be way too easy to counter.

So we should see how LRP's shape is today - good time yesterday but if TJ's dropped on the first climb, it could be a long lonely ride. The last climb is a grinder so Roglic should TT his way up it, and there's still 27 km to the finish from the top. If Rui Costa & Dan Martin have a good day it'll be interesting viewing.
