I find this painful to watch. If Chaves had a really bad day on Zonc, he wouldn't lose this much time. Falling behind early in the stage is good news, bad news. The good news is you have the whole stage to catch up. The bad news is that if you don't catch up fairly soon, you lose massive amounts of time. Textbook example of how a GT can be lost on a single not-that-difficult stage.

And this really is bad news for Yates. Now when Chaves goes up the road, nobody will care, he's no threat. As one of the posters said, 3-4 minutes behind, and Chaves would still be on a fairly short leash. But after what it looks as though he'll lose today, there will be no leash at all.

Agreed

Seems to me, that Mitchelton is putting all their eggs in one basked (remember, Kreuziger is also in the 2nd group), which is quite a risk to take.

I'm actually pleased Chavez has been dropped hard. It's a kind of justice what with him costing Yates so much time on Etna.

1. Chaves "cost" Yates 4 seconds by winning.
2. Yates let Chaves win.

Gigs, don't you have something really important you need to do? Like, ironing your dog or something like that.
I'm not watching. Just following the live ticker

Sky and Sunweb should try to isolate Yates at the end of the stage, they have the numbers to do it.
They can try, but I'm not sure what the point would be. As someone said earlier, any contenders (or stage win hopefuls) who don't get in a move will chase it. Honestly, Yates looks like he could just about do a Contador 2011 and ride away from them on the flat in current form.

Re:

@Тhe Chicken : So do you really think that someone is able to put 2 minutes on Etna ? Yates softpedaled the whole climb and he had an energy. Yes, he was really strong, but keep in mind that just after his attack all the other contenders just watched each other for a while, which helped for a bigger gap.
Although I agree that the gap could be a bit bigger (not more than 5 seonds) because I think SY slowed down for Chaves. However, this is a grand total of 10 seconds which deffo wont be crucial and the team spirit costs way more than this 10 seconds.

Peloton needs to push on now and make the sprinter teams give up on the stage. A stitch in time saves 9.
I can sense an agenda in this post.

There is 100% an agenda - When you have someone whinging about the team helping Chaves try to go from 4th to 3rd in stage 20 of the 2016 Vuelta which may have dropped which may have caused S.Yates to drop from 5th to 6th - And remember Chaves gave permission for S.Yates to get a stage win at that Vuelta.
