According to Wikipedia it doesn't. Its ancient name was different (Segusium), and just gradually transformed into Susa in Italian.spiritualride said:Stage 20 starts in Susa. Oldest Alpine town, founded by Gauls centuries before the Roman Republic became an Empire. No clue if its name has anything to do with the Ancient Persian city of Susa.
Somewhere, high and dry on El Teide, Vincenzo Nibali questions his life's decisions.Flat Out said:Meanwhile, Italy has been hit by bad weather. It's snowing on the Zoncolan and in Sappada. Just to let you know.
The only way going through Cortina d'Ampezzo mid stage isn't a major disappointment is if it's followed by passo Giau and Passo Fedaia (FEDAIAAAAA!!!!!!!!!)Netserk said:Looking at the Sappada stage, it's actually quite annoying how easily they could have improved it, even without added distance or difficulty (well, not much). Just change the start and skip Cortina d'Ampezzo.
Yes, the sadist in me would still like to see Forcella Ciandolada instead of Forcella Cibiana in a race, that climb + Forcella Staulanza before Giau would be awesome.Red Rick said:The only way going through Cortina d'Ampezzo mid stage isn't a major disappointment is if it's followed by passo Giau and Passo Fedaia (FEDAIAAAAA!!!!!!!!!)Netserk said:Looking at the Sappada stage, it's actually quite annoying how easily they could have improved it, even without added distance or difficulty (well, not much). Though honestly, I would've loved if they came into Cortina from the Giau descent and whatever they want to put before that.
Like the Glieres at the Tour. Great idea, poor design. Still, it's a toughy.Serpentin said:What a wast of the finestre climb. Nobody is gonna risk it so far out. Maybe good for shedding domestiques.
It's just going to be Nieve/Kreuziger and Haig sending everyone but the contenders backwards until Yates takes overSerpentin said:What a waste of the finestre climb. Nobody is gonna risk it so far out. Maybe good for shedding domestiques.

You mean 3 different first-time winners? Surely there were five stages won by first-time GT stage winners: Carapaz, Schachmann and Bennett x3.RedheadDane said:Random Stage Winners Statistics:
Out of 22 teams 10 teams got stage wins.
2 teams got 5 stage wins.
1 team got 3 stage wins.
1 team got 2 stage wins.
The remaining 6 got one stage win each.
Only 3 stages were won by first-time GT stage winners.

How can one be a first time winner more than once?
