I think it's interesting that the junior men and women are so much closer in the ITT than on the climb.

And yeah this is basically confirmation that Igls was softpedalled as hell.
Wow. Never have I heard of 5.2W/kg + referred to as soft-pedalling lol
It is when the best riders can easily get close to 6W/kg but are just waiting for a steeper climb.
100 km into a 250km race it’s not.

So that's why they did like 6,3+ on the final climb.

Because that’s what a world class pro can hold for 20-40 minutes without totally blowing up after 5 hours. It can’t be held for a whole race.

If they did 6 w/kg on the early Igls climb then they would've done only 5 w/kg on the final climb, because of no legs left.

And if I read the report guys like A.Yates, Majka and Kruijswijk were 'emtpy' when they arrived at the steep climb..

I don't know what you're arguing here

It's basically proof that no contender for the title who was actually good did anything before the final hill, which in turn proof how stupid it was to have it in there.

For a second I think Valverde announced his retirement. That would have been a shocker

I think the translation is slight off. I have a feeling he means when he retires he can be happy. After the race in an interview he said when he retires he can be a peace, but that he still has some more time before that. I think this comment is an extension of the those comments.

If he can maintain his level (and is thus selected), I think the Olympics will be his last race.

His actual comment was definitely through the Olympics and then we'll see. He's not willing to say he's going to retire at that point yet.

Woods said he was deeply disappointed in the immediate aftermath of the finish because he thought Valverde was gifting him the win by launching so early. I thought so too. It was really dangerous, and really unnecessary to open that sprint from 350 metres. Only a cramp for Woods saved him, I think.

Agreed, thought it was a way too last sprint as well. Pretty lucky IMO

I also thought it was a little early to open up the sprint and was afraid he'd yet again made a mistake. Just thankful this time he got it. His emotions after were so worth it to see after so many years of trying.

I don't think so, Valverde is very good in long sprints, especially after a hard race. Just look at Worlds 2005 where only Boonen passed him, or this year, I think it was Valencia, when he beat Luisle and Fuglsang.

2022 World Championship will be held in Australia at Wollongong which is 90 minutes south of Sydney - Some interesting terrain which the organisers can use to make an interesting course.

There is some interesting terrain in Yorkshire which the organisers could have used for an interesting course too

Just watched the entire race with my husband this afternoon and evening. (First time he saw any of it). It's still just as great to see Alejandro win it this time as it was live. The biggest difference is that I wasn't so worried about any of the attacks and I could enjoy the entire race a lot more.

Good point. At least there will be a good chance of afternoon seabreeze. Should end up being a similar course to Geelong, maybe slightly hillier.
