Demare...
Anyone but...

Thankfully!
Why? Irregular sprint?
I'm not a big fan of Demare, mainly because I think he's gotten away with some questionable sprints.

I'm just a bit concerned about the fact that you posted something, then - two minutes later - quoted your own post in order to disagree with it.
No point in getting into arguments with yourself, especially since you might end up having to ban yourself.

My first post was just a premonition. I thought Demare was going to rocket out of the bunch with a sprint that won the stage, my second post was my happiness that it didn't come true.

If I could ban myself I would have done it many times over by now, including today, but mods and admins cannot be banned, it's just not possible with the software we use. :p

Good to see Alaphilippe being so attentive and serious about this. Tomorrow's stage runs past Saint-Amand-Montrond which is the birthplace of Julian Alaphilippe. There is bonus secs o the top of Chablis to Chalon-sur-Saône (which is like a long version of Poggio).

I hope the GC men will fight for those. It's almost more exciting than the sprint. :p

Wait, they changed it again. How was that not a split?
Seems quite questionable that there wasn't at least a second in between.
There's a new rule this year: for sprint stages there has to be 3 seconds between groups in order to count a gap, which is pretty stupid imo.
Yeah, I don't think it should have been used for this race. There was clearly more than 1'' between the groups (there's ~25m between the two groups), and I guess that would have resulted in a 5'' gap. A sprint like this one begs for gaps to appear, and it's not like in the Tour when that would mean a bunch of GC riders would interfere with the sprint.

edit: a link to the rules, which states that it's up to the organizers to decide if they want to use it (and also a confirmation of the standing-still-on-the-finish-line loophole): http://www.uci.ch/mm/Document/News/Rulesandregulation/18/53/43/Arrivees_Sprint_Massif_02.03.2018-E_English.pdf

Im really excited for the Izagirre brothers in this race, both of them could actually win. Its a super open race, but right now I would probably go with Julian Alaphilppe although he looked unspectacular on stage 1.

I don't know how today will pan out. A large breakaway may be allowed given so 67 riders are over 2 minutes down already. I can see some sprinters making it into the final group if the breakaways are brought back.

Interesting end to a lonnnnng stage

Alaphilippe might well be the man today.

Since Alaphilippe is racing on home roads and the last part of the profile suits him, wonder if he’s going to attack and try to get some bonus seconds? Will sprinter teams and other GC riders allow him to go for it?
