It's beyond me how someone like Valverde can go from superaggressive racer to someone who only wins by outsprinting others from one race to another.
It is the ultimate litmus test of a race's prestige.

Pretty true actually. Valverde is always super aggressive in small races and very defensive in his real targets. At the very least Valverde's racing style here shows Valverde probably doesn't think it is a very big race. :D

Seeing van Aert like this only makes Mathieu's decision all the more baffling. He should have been here damnit.

I would have loved to see Mathieu on the road as well, but unfortunately we won't see him in Strade Bianche until 2021 at least - since I don't see him missing out on the 2020 Olympics.

Van Aert is a total beast at the moment, really impressed by his efforts in Omloop and today. If you're getting beaten time and time again by Mathieu and still have the willpower to keep fighting and win the Worlds and be in this shape right now you can do nothing but take a bow.

I think it just shows that there are faster sprinters/puncheurs than him here who could be a threat at the finish. In LBL or FW there aren't.
