I didn't knew Van Aert before this year. Do you think he can resist in that high gradient road inside Siena?

Yes, normally. But he spent a lot of time in front before Bardet joined up, so might be too fatigued.

Bardet had to close a big gap to the favourites alone, that was a bigger effort.
It was on a really steep climb though - he probably wasn't working any harder than the others - just is a much better climber.

Wait, isn't this what we wanted when we reduced teams to 7 riders?

Definately we wanted this. Teamleaders failed, need to learn not to wait.

Absolutely, this is great. A cyclocrosser and a high mountain climber being chased by a classics specialist - what a race!

Exactly! Can't ask for better than that.

A big effort, yes, but it didn't take him long to get there. Van Aert pulled the break for long.

Bora seriously need an upgrade in the car. Clearly, it's not legs that are the problem.

Move of the day by Benoot, but it also shows that the front duo doesn't hold many reserves
Benoot should try and go straight past them.

I'd really like to see what the Sagan group is doing right now. I mean Benoot who had to do a lot of work so far is about to close a 40 seconds gap so, what can Sagan/Kwiat/Valverde/Stybar do

Dude, what he did was almost impossible and know you want him to just drop them :D ?

Yep, maybe catch his breath by sitting on for a couple of km. But he's clearly the stronger of the three, so should try to drop them before the finish imo.

Small groups everywhere. This really has been great racing even if most of the favorites messed it up
