Matteo Moschetti wins the 2nd stage.
Absolutely brilliant. Of course there aren't many decent sprinters present but it's still a win at one of the highest levels in cycling.
He needs to work on his climbing skills though, yesterday he finished dead last, more than 6 minutes behind the "gruppetto".

He has already been signed up for next year by a big team, right? Which one is it again?

A pity for Polartec that they will lose him, but of course that’s ultimately the point of a development team.
He's been signed by Trek, Polartec is their feeder team so no surprise.
Moschetti leaving provides new opportunities for their other Italian sprinter, Gazzoli, who is only 19.

Which one is the next Cipo? :D ..hope noone makes a thread

Will leave that to you :D
Gazzoli was super in the junior category but failed to make a big impression this year. He did a lot of races together with Moschetti this year so it makes sense he didn't really get many opportunities. Hard to say who'll end up the better rider. Next season should clear things up.

Danish TV completely randomly showed this race last year, but unfortunately not this year. Its actually one of the races I like the most on the calendar for some reason back to 2011 when Landa won when Euskaltel also had prime Antón and Samu in the race. Its always nice to watch some of the younger climbers perform like Landa, Chaves, Soler, Mas, Superman Lopez etc.

They are actually showing it on TV2 Play if you have that. I got it for the Tour so I had some chance of following the Tour while being down there following the Tour ;)

It's a bit difficult for them to find space on the main channels in this Euro week which is understandable.

That was a fairly exciting finish. Sosa looked buried 1km out, but reeled Lopez in only to be outfoxed by Superman in the final.

Yes really enjoyable. These smaller races are often so much better than the big ones.

Sosa is the new Bernal :D

My god what a final kilometre by him. But nice answer by Superman.

Also pretty incredible with two Dimension Data riders in the top 5 on a MTF.
Laws of nature: None of them were Meintjes

Of course not. Top 5 placings are too exposed for Meintjes' liking. Better to hide a little further down.

That was a nice climb, but it was obvious just how much wind there where. Imagine the gaps if that wasn't the case, its an extremely hard climb in a race like Burgos.

Movistar no where to be found again...
Not really surprising. Valverde and Quintana are resting between GTs, and Soler is taking a break too. Carapaz is in Poland as is Pedrero. Rubén Fernández and Winner Anacona were both at around the expected level. Rosón is meant to be one of their main guys for this type of race but obviously he's suspended right now.

Movistar have been overachieving for their budget for a few years now, mainly thanks to Valverde and Quintana, but even Don Alejandro has to face father time at some point, and the hiring of Landa leaves them very top heavy, and lacking depth in the backup area, at least until the guys like Castrillo develop.

I agree, it isn't surprising, but its still bad. I don't think you can justify such a performance in a home race, even without the leaders, the up an coming riders and Rosón. I mean, I genuinely like Vuelta a Burgos, but its freaking Vuelta a Burgos and you don't manage to place just one rider in the top-15. Anacona, Fernandez and Valls are decent riders and should be able to do that, just one of them. Not that it matters that much tbh, its just kinda symptomatic for their whole season.

Remember Fernandez is coming back from yet another injury. So not sure what type of racing shape he's actually in. I did expect more from Anacona and Valls.

At least Barbero managed to win today.
