Standings

Koronin is bumped off the podium by Semir, as the Yates teams take control. Salvarani moves up one, and Armchair Cyclist makes a late entry into the top ten (I recall last place at the end of week one). Crevaison has, by a large margin, the biggest jump of the day with 12 places.

All or nothing tomorrow, but there was no evidence today that Uran or Quintana will take enough points relative to to Lopez for Amis Velo or Semir to catch Bicycle Boy. Unless something really extraordinary happens.

At this point Quintana has to be in the service of Valverde tomorrow.

Well my unique team at least is doing well. Hopefully for Valverde and my team his issues today were due to the high altitude and the fact he apparently hates this climb and the fact it appears to be a totally horrible climb for him.

Standings
Quintana's accompaniment of Valverde's final limp to the line, and thereby being passed on the road and in GC by Uran, puts SemirS into second place, which is quite an achievement as he had wasted 1/4 of his budget on Porte. GPBlanco has the two young guns on the podium, and the protagonists of today's stage, so gets the prime place behind the Yates teams. His 3 place jump is matched by Squire, getting into the top ten, but outdone by Search, Blues in the Bottle, and above all by Akuryo, whose 9 position improvement is the best of the day.
But our leader stretches out his lead yet again, and seems about as unlikely to yield as Simon Yates.

Tomorrow will probably see a few points lost in the points competition by teams with Yates, Lopez, Pinot and Teuns, plus a few sprinter points, although the favourites are unpicked.

But unless someone very significant fails to finish, or has a serious issue just before the 3km marker, there shouldn't be much change tomorrow.

Final standings

Not many points, so not much change. BikeRider gets a cheeky last gasp bump up into the top ten as the highest change in the table, and Shalgo, Gotland and NAS each manage to improve their final standings bu two points.

Despite being second worst scorer on the day, SemirS holds off Amis Velo's late attempt to gain second place, akin to Mas diving into that last corner in Andorra yesterday for 2nd place.

But it would have taken a lot worse than merely being last on the day to have deprived Bicycle Boy of the lead that he has held since stage 14, and I suspect 300 points plus as a winning margin may not have been done before. I doubt the team lowest on the popularity chart has ever won before either.

Well done to Bicycle Boy, congratulations also to Semir and Amis Velo for getting the key pick that put them on the odium, to GPBlanco for doing best of the non-Yates teams, and thanks to everyone for having a go.

Thanks for running this game and all of the games throughout the year Armchair. I am very happy to have won the Vuelta. I realise these games are partly down to luck, but winning a CQ game with the bottom ranked team in the popularity ranking and by 300 points makes the victory extra special :) :surprised:

Thanks @armchaircyclist for organising this again. It's a great game.

Second time in a row I pick the winner of the GT and this gets me on the podium (Geraint in the Tour and now Simon) and both times having Porte in my team. :D In the end, I'm very satisfied with the result and congrats to the winner.

Thanks Armchair cyclist! I really appreciate the effort you put into these games.

Looking forward to the year totals. I think I topped that ranking last year, if I'm not mistaken (my only CQ game 'win' ever). Don't think I'll be close to that this year, but I'm happy that my team of bang average GC contenders/pretenders got me a top ten in the Vuelta.

Thanks for the comments. I'm happy with my top ten here, partly because I was dead last after stage 13, partly because it was achieved despite wasted points on Porte, and partly for reasons that will become clear when I put up a few more numbers from the spreadsheet tonight.

In the early stages of the Vuelta, Los Brolin, Nathanptz and Rote Laterne all headed this table at some point, and I had thought that having Porte in my team would scupper my hopes. But as Mas moved up the rankings, and Pinot started winning stages and getting higher on GC, I ended up stretching the lead I had before this fourth leg.

Thanks especially to this bunch who have been loyal entrants in all the games this year.

Only entrant other than the overall winner to score 1000+ in every game. I'll take that :D
