I really enjoy reading Squire post on this CQ games so I am curious why he picked ERRAZKIN PEREZ Xuba too.

I was going to pick that rider based on his results (definitely didn't know anything about him other than that) and then read on his CQ page that he's provisionally suspended and is awaiting verdict by the UCI. Not knowing the details and not having time to look (I was throwing together my team in the last 15 minutes I had), I left him off because I wasn't sure what the rules were around suspended riders for this game and didn't have time to make a change since the deadline was approaching (plus if he was suspended for a significant portion of the 3 years that wouldn't be great). Can anyone clarify what that's about?

Errazkin has had asthma for 3 or 4 years - he admitted to ADOP he and his team made a ¨administrative error¨¨, not presenting the papers needed for his Terbutaline use, and as a result, he tested positive twice during GP Abimota back in June!

He expects a ban around 3 to 4 months as his case is very similar (according to himself) to that of Simon Yates back in 2016.

He had an offer from another team for 2019, which fell through because of the ongoing speculations, but Vito-Feirense-BlackJack prolonged his contract for 2019 and backs him 100 percent in the whole affair.

Gotcha. Guess I should have picked him!

The dopers rule for this one is that if doping has lead to removal of points, and the only reason the lifetime total is below 200 is the removal of those points, then he is not allowed, otherwise not an issue.

Imagine that Gonzalo Najar had had 58 lifetime points at the beginning of last season, then his 142 points temporarily awarded in last January's Vuelta a San Juan would have made him ineligible for any future edition of the game. Those Vuelta a San Juan points have been scrubbed by CQ, so it would look as though he is eligible, but by my rule he wouldn't be when he returns. It's not the easiest to keep track of, and I am largely reliant on the honesty of managers and the vigilance of others. I am aware of 2 riders in the current game who have "issues", but neither had appreciable points deductions.

In fact Najar only had 52 points, and so his total if the points from that race were not deducted would be 194, so if you want to pick him in the 2022-24 game, in readiness for his return in May 2022, you are free to do so. Indeed, if you think he will gain enough points in the latter part of 2022 for it to be worthwhile, you can even pick him for the 2020-22 game.

This week, my youngsters DEWULF Stan and EVENEPOEL Remco will run, both in Argentina (San Juan). If last week HAMILTON Chris brought me a lot of points (113) from Australia, why are not these two kids going to bring them to me from the Americas? ;)

They are the two most popular riders in the game: the'y bring whatever points they get to most of us.

But he didn't, not in this game anyway.

Year 1, Month 1 to 3rd Feb

And off we go...

Picked riders' best scores
HIGUITA GARCIA Sergio Andres 73 points (a 4th, a 6th and a 12th in Mallorcan races) for 3 teams (DJW, Ludwigzgz and Skidmark)
EVENEPOEL Remco 35pts (9th on GC and 3rd on a stage in San Juan) 28 teams

WHELAN James 13 4
GARCIA SOSA Jhojan Orlando 9 2
Other popular riders to get off the mark already are HONORE and OSORIO (5 and 3 points, for 12 and 11 teams respectively)

And, largely because of Evenepoel being on >90% of teams, everyone has started scoring

1 Ludwigzgz 117 (Higuita, Evenepoel, Weemaes (6 pts) and Osorio)
2 Skidmark 108 (Higuita and Evenepoel)
3 DJW 97 (Higuita and Scotson)

Prior to this year I allowed entries right up to the end of January, meaning early results brought riders into a team: it worked very well for those picking Gaviria late in the 2015-17 game, not so much so for those who made a late inclusion of Najar a year ago. So who would have been picked if entries closed a couple of weeks later this year? Higuita might have had more picks (or at least fewer discards), but unpicked Aussie champion Freiberg already had his win before the game closed, and Dylan Sutherland had some of the points he now has. Although he showed well rather than scoring highly, I guess Biniam Hailu might have gained some support if the Tropicale Amissa Bongo had been before the deadline: who would you have picked if you know halfway through the month what you know at the end of it?

The highest scoring unpicked riders:
FREIBERG Michael 105
QUIROZ AYALA Oscar Adalberto 100
SUNDERLAND Dylan 80
FOUCHE James 70
LEA Jason 62
OSORIO ARBOLEDA Juan Felipe 60
TESFOM Sirak 50
PAREDES AVELLANEDA Cesar Nicolas 50

The first update is probably more relevant for making sure the spreadsheet works than for the scores: here it is. (I might not always post the link, but it should always be at the same place)

Year 1, Month 2 4th February to 3rd March

The same rider tops the table (of selected riders: 2 men would have topped him in January, and Yacob Debesay would have done so in February)

HIGUITA GARCIA Sergio Andres 92 pts (7th in Ruta del Sol, with 2nd on a stage, and 13th in Volta a Valencia) for DJW, Ludwigzgz and Skidmark
BADILATTI Matteo 71 (3rd in Tour du Rwanda) for Alykaptan, DJW, Fauniera
CONTRERAS PINZON Rodrigo 70 (10th in both Colombia and Rwanda, stage win in the latter) for Comodoro and Hakkie
RODRIGUEZ GARAICOECHEA Oscar 60 (9th in Vuelta a Murcia, 13th in Ruta del Sol) for 9 teams
FEDELI Alessandro 49pts for Skidmark
DE BOD Stefan 48, 4 teams
LE TURNIER Mathias 40 Vladimir

Standings

DJW jumps from last to first of the trio of teams that stuck with Higuita, and which still fills the podium, and February's champion is the closest other team, with a 22 place jump that probably won't be repeated. Kazistuta (+15) and Amis Velo (+8) enter the top ten, for what it's worth at this stage.

Don't despair too much that Collective Ignorance is so far ahead: it is a team that changes its make-up as the game progresses, and so at the moment is comprised of riders who have flourished in the relatively minor events of these couple of months.

Year 1, month 4 1st to 28th April

MÜLLER Patrick 148 (Volta Limburg win, 4th in Circuit de la Sarthe) for Alykaptan, Comodoro, Hugo Koblet, Kazistuta and Squire
EVENEPOEL Remco 109 (4th in Tour of Turkey) 28 teams
PRONSKIY Vadim 105 (3rd in Langkawi) for Comodoro, Cordi333 and Squire

HIGUITA GARCIA Sergio Andres 76 3
CULEY Marcus 46 1
SOTO MARTINEZ Nelson Andres 41 1
but we all missed 100 point plus riders Cavanagh, Swirbul, and Taminiaux

Only Hugo Koblet breaks into the top ten, and does so with the biggest (8 place) jump. That is largely because the top six other teams this month were already in the top ten. Alykaptan, Kazistuta, Squire and Comodoro all move up within the top ten.

I need to do something tonight or tomorrow about getting the Vuelta game up and running, so that will occupy me for several weeks. Expect the next update to be either late Sept or early October.

Well I haven't even been able to check into this game since getting back from my summer work in August - barely have had time to update the CQ thread. But I knew my picks were doing pretty well, so it's great to see it paying off in an early lead in the standings. And with Steimle heading to Qst (and winning his first race as a stagaire), and Rivera/Higuita/Remco all picking up even more points in recent weeks, the future is looking bright!

Year 1, Month 8b-9 12 August to 29 September (sorry, I know that the data is a week old, but I don't want to get the three games out of synch)

LARSEN Niklas 218 points (Tour of Denmark win and stage points, Lillehammer win) for Alykaptan and LukasCPH
RODRIGUEZ GARAICOECHEA Oscar 212 (2nd in Vuelta a Burgos, 22nd in Vuelta a Espana) for 9 teams
HIGUITA GARCIA Sergio Andres 211 (Stage win and 14th on GC in Vuelta, 4th in U23 WRR) for DJW, Ludwigzgz and Skidmark
VINGEGAARD RASMUSSEN Jonas 200 (2nd Danmark Rundt, 9th Deutschland Tour) 5 teams
EVENEPOEL Remco 165 28
LYU Xianjing 126 4
DAINESE Alberto 124 14
AFFINI Edoardo 109 15
ALMEIDA Joao Pedro Gonçalves 107 16
BOUCHARD Geoffrey 90 7

Vladimir picked Cherkasov for the 2017/19 and 2018/20 editions, but had given up on him by the time this one came around, and no-one else picked him up either, but he got 201 this session.

1 Skidmark 1210 (Higuita, Vingegaard, Evenepoel, Dainese, Affini)
2 AlyKaptan 1189 (Larsen, Rodriguez, Evenepoel, Dainese, Affini, Bouchard)

HIGUITA GARCIA Sergio Andres 131 (3rd in Emilia, 5th in Tre Valli Varesine) for DJW, Ludwigzgz and Skidmark
BARCELO ARAGON Fernando 51 (6th in Tour de Vendee, 12th in Paris Tours) 8 teams

MERTZ Rémy 32 2
OLIVEIRA Rui Filipe Alves 22 6

KENNETT Dylan, ALLEGAERT Piet, NOVIKOV Savva and CHZHAN Igor all scored more than 100 points in this period, but to no-one's benefit.

Another monthly win for Skidmark, the third in a row, as the three teams with Higuita are the top three.

Standings

Considering we have only had the first year, that lead of Skidmark's is getting serious. Nit many significant scorers, so no-one moved up more than one place: Flo and Hugo did so within the top ten.

I'll do an end of year update for the few remaining races, and any adjustments. Until then, consider whether it is worth recycling any of your less successful riders in this game in the 2020-2022 edition.

Year 1 Months 11 &12[/ b] 28 October to the end of the year.

Not much happening:
LYU Xianjing got 68 points, mainly for 4th in GC in the Tour of Fuzhou, benefiting 4 teams (Fauniera, Jon Ezeitza, Josedin and Ludwigzgz)
CULEY Marcus earned 55 points for Leadbelly with almost ridiculous domination of the Tour of Selangor
and ROCHAS Rémy picked up 3 points for Flo when Yonathan Monsalve was disqualified from July's Tour of Qinghai Lake.

Fauniera somehow made a 4 place jump up the table from that little end of season bonus: maybe more importantly, Ludwigzgz moves up one to second place at the end of year 1. Leadbelly, at the other end of the table, also gains a place.

End of Year 1 standings

Best Possible team
The scoring has been dominated by two riders, one of who was selected by all but three managers, the other by only three. Having both of them is a big reason why Skidmark and Ludwigzgz are the top two in the standings, and having neither of them is largely why Leadbelly and Rote Laterne are in the bottom three. But looking at the best possible team, 11 of the 18 were not selected by anyone (maybe the ones we picked will come through in years 2 and 3)
EVENEPOEL Remco 952 pts 28 teams (out of 31)
HIGUITA GARCIA Sergio Andres 914 3
RODRIGUEZ GARAICOECHEA Oscar 401 9
VALTER Attila 361 0
AFFINI Edoardo 358 15
TAMINIAUX Lionel 348 0
CHERKASOV Nicolay 320 0
MUÑOZ GIRALDO Daniel Felipe 311 0
BUDDING Martijn 305 0
RIVERA SERRANO Kevin 301 13
LARSEN Niklas 301 2
VINGEGAARD RASMUSSEN Jonas 299 5
ALLEGAERT Piet 286 0
RODRIGUES Joao Pedro Lourenço 273 0
GABBURO Davide 265 0
NOVIKOV Savva 264 0
AULAR SANABRIA Orluis Alberto 243 0
SWIRBUL Keegan 232 0

That team would have 6734 points thus far: Skidmark's score represents 64.3% of that, about the middle of year one leaders as a %age of perfection in the game's short history.

Between us, we chose 12 riders last year who haven't scored a single point in 2019: 2 of them were chosen by more than 10 of us. They, and lots of others who did less well than we might have hoped, are still eligible for the 2020-22 edition, now open for entries, as are hundreds of other riders with dreams of emerging over the next 3 years into the elite.

Where you have gone right or wrong.

Year 2, Month 1 to 2nd February

If Evenepoel and Higuita hadn't had the 2019 that they had, I would say that Year 2 is when the best riders of the cohort begin to make themselves factors in bigger events. Those two feature again, as does one of the most popular picks other than Evenepoel, but some interesting unique/rare pick performances too.

Top January scorers:
EVENEPOEL Remco 210 (San Juan stage and GC wins) 28 teams
MOSCHETTI Matteo 160 (winning both Challenge Majorca sprint races) 25
TESFATSION Natnael Ocbit 130 (stage and GC wins in Tropicale Amissa Bongo) for Leadbelly
HIGUITA GARCIA Sergio Andres 100 (Colombian national RR win) DJW, Ludwigzgz and Skidmark
FLOREZ LOPEZ Miguel Eduardo 95 (stage win and 5th on GC in San Juan) Blues in the Bottle and Madrazo
CULEY Marcus 62 (3rd (RR) and 7th (ITT) in Aussie nationals) Leadbelly again
DAINESE Alberto 50 (3rd in Race Torquay) 14 teams

Having topped the last three full updates, Skidmark can only manage 2nd this time around. Has the decline set in?

1 Madrazo 625 (Evenepoel, Moschetti, Florez, Dainese)
2 Skidmark 589 (Evenepoel, Moschetti, Higuita, Dainese)
3 Ludwigzgz 535 (Evenepoel, Moschetti, Higuita)

Standings
That lead keeps growing, as does Ludwigzgz' claim on second place. Is there a rider out there who these two have missed out on that will emerge to make up for another team not having Higuita between now and the end of next year? If not, these monthly comments are going to be even more repetitive than they have become.

Madrazo moves up 2 places to 4th, Karaev is into the top ten, and BitB moves up 4 places.
