Standings
Higuita is now only 11 points behind Evenepoel in points gained in this game (and they are both more than 900 clear of the next best), so the two teams that have both dominate, and DJW overtakes some Evenepoel teams in rising 4 places, the biggest shift in this period. Vladimir in 13th is the highest placed to have changed position.

I guess the next update will be end of June, at best:let's hope it isn't very much later.

"Late June", I hoped last I posted here: early August isn't too much worse.

Year 2, months 4-7 14 March to 2 August

It didn't take long for the main man of the game to start scoring big again.

Standings
After the long gap, the 6 teams behind all close the gap on Skidmark, although maybe it is only the ose 2nd and third who he really has to watch out for. There were only a few dozen points in this period between all those teams (and any other that had both Deceuninck Burgos youngsters), and Flo and Hakkie both move up one (past Kazistuta, who missed Almeida), and Del makes the biggest (3 place) move.

Standings

Skidmark had Fedeli and Vingegaard to prevent him having a disastrous month, but thoroughly outscored and he relinquishes the Lead that he has had since last August. Other than Ludwigzgz going top, the notable progessions are Flo rising two places, Kryvo nudging into the top ten, and SafeBet managing a 6 place jump.

We will have a few months without Evenepoel dominating the scoring, but I doubt the teams that chose to leave him out will make that big an inroad into the deficit they have brought upon themselves. Otherwise, this is not the season for predictions about what might happen in the autumn.

Standings

Squire got the top monthly score in both this game and the one from the year following, but Skidmark moves from 2nd to top in both of them, so has maybe had an even better September. Squire is now just off the podium, and Laarsman makesconsiderable mid-table progress.

No Higuita or Evenepoel, but several of these are in the Giro, and as I type Almeida is in pink, so there should be higher scores next month.

Year 2 Month 10-11 5th October to 15th November, and the end of the season with few exceptions.

For a long time, this game has been all about Evenepoel and Higuita, but suddenly we have a third major factor, who totally dominates the scores in this session.

Ludwigzgz is the only manager to have all three of Evenepoel, Higuita and Almeida: that trio look like they will define the game.

There were fewer points scored in the game in year 2 than in Year 1: like most 2020 stats, not normal.

When the end of year data is released, I'll do a bit of analysis, but until then, the spreadsheet is here.

Year 2 months 11-12 16 November to 31 December.

No selected rider scored in the last few weeks, but Orluis Aular came third in the Venezuelan Time Trial championships, scoring 7 points for the Collective Ignorance team.

This cohort moves into their final year in the game, and we wait to see whether anyone else will be able to start scoring in the way that three of them have already.

Spreadsheet

Year 3, Month 1 to Jan 31st

The final hear for this cohort starts quietly, with only one selected scorer getting any points. It is, however, the biggest score of the year so far, emerging or otherwise:

PARET-PEINTRE Aurélien, 80 points for winning GP La Marseillaise, for 5 teams: Del 1962, Joelsim, Kazistuta, Scrool07 and Vladimir.

That is enough for 2 teams to move in the overall rankings: Vladimir goes up 1 place to 20th, and Del overtakes 2 teams, rising to 11th.

The Collective Ignorance team also picked up 9 points through MUÑOZ GIRALDO Daniel Felipe coming 5th in Tachira.

Spreadsheet

Year 3, month 2 1-28 February (once every 7 years, month 2 means month 2!)

It looks like we might get reasonable scoring opportunities this year: how much can they do to make up for the thwarted chances of 2020?

Standings

The top scorer in February is reaches the top five as his reward, and Flo, second this month, remains second overall but has cut Ludwig's lead by about 100 points. The five team battle for the final podium spot is shaping up nicely.

Year 3, Month 3 1st March to 4th April

The story of this edition has been that if it is not dominated by Evenepoel, then by Higuita, and if not Higuita then Almeida.

Standings
I thought that being the only manager to have all three of Evenepoel, Almeida and Higuita would make Ludwigzgz unassailable: apparently not. The two most important rises on the standings belong to the top two scorers this month.

Standings
The two breakaway leaders both had a very underwhelming latter part of the classics campaign, so the peloton comes closer. Flo does marginally better of the two (Rochas and Honoré more than cancelling out Osorio) to extend her lead. The chasers stay pretty much in the same order that they were in, with Del replacing Kryvo in the top ten.

Working on this spreadsheet seems an odd way of taking a break from last minute work on the Giro game spreadsheet, but at least I have this out of the way to focus on Italy, and got a nice little fillip when I did the month's team table.

There are some riders in this game of whom great things are expected at the Giro. And a few others who might scrape some odd points in Hungary or somewhere. Hopefully I will get an update in the first week of June.

Year 3 month 53-30 May

Not what some expected from the Giro (but maybe more than expected from another source), and some pretty important non-Giro points too.

The collective ignorance team got more points off people called Rodrigues/z than 10 of us got from our entire teams this month, and that includes some of us getting points from Oscar R!
Almeida has now overtaken Evenepoel as top scorer in the game over the 2 1/2 years.

Standings

For a while it has been Flo and Ludwigzgz and then a gap, but after they came 2nd and 16th this month, it is now Flo followed by a gap, and three teams in a tussle for the podium.

We won't (in all probability) find the Tour winner among the riders in this game as we have the last two years, but one rider at least seems to be on track for a decent haul of points there (Hugo Koblet is the highest placed of the 5 teams with Vingegaard). And there may be Olympic points to gain too before the next update.

Sorry to have let the end of July update slip by me, especially as this will will have been among the biggest scoring couple of months: high summer of the final year.

In the last couple of years, this game has included he Tour winner: this time around we only have a second place to boast of.

Standings
I wondered whether Hugo having Vingegaard would be enough to displace Flo, but she countered with Hayter and Bagioli to limit the damage. It is hard to see the nine riders that Hugo has that are not also on Flo's team making up the 320 point difference, but not impossible.

How much difference can the next few races make? Hopefully I will remember to tell you at the beginning of October.

Year 3 Month 9 30 August to 4 October

The eligible for this edition (but too young to consider when we were picking) Florian Vermeersch almost broke the duck of Emerging Riders (in these games) as winners of a monument: that might well happen today according to the bookies, but if it does the rider likely to be responsible is so widely picked that it won't make much difference. But let's try to get this done before that happens.

A month ago it looked like there might be a late challenge, but Flo's team were having none of it. The rest of October can be classified as a ceremonial Champs Elysses stage as far as we are concerned here.

Many of the riders in our game have already finished for the season: quite a few more will have done so by the end of today, but there are still some points to be fought over so the (almost) final bulletin will be towards the end of the month.

Until then, if it has survived the update in Google docs, here is the spreadsheet.

Well done to Flo, and to all who made a challenge of it.
And of course, thanks and well done to the riders, whose hopes and dreams, fulfilled or otherwise, we have played with, and to the CQ website.

All the numbers you could hope to analyse here.

You can prove that this was not a fluke, or that you can do better really, in the 2022-24 edition.

I may manage a bit more number crunching and comparison of this with previous editions in a few days: my next task is the Main CQ game, but after I have put my team in for that, I hope.

I had lost the file with data from the six so far completed editions, but finally tracked it down.

Flo's winning score was the lowest yet, but by no means the least impressive performance:

As rare picks go, Higuita (picked by DJW, Ludwigzgz and Skidmark) is the third best, beaten by Bernal (2055 in his 2016-18 incarnation, picked by Ruudz0r and me) and MCMountain's audacious unique pick of Roglic in the 2015-17 game, worth 2313 points. However, doing what nobody did, and picking Pogacar when he was 18 or Evenepoel when he was 17 would have been worth 2015 and 1870 respectively.

But at least we are getting better at not missing out totally: Valter was by a long way the lowest scoring highest member of the Collective Ignorance team, and although he and 5 others were among the best possible selection, that 'selection' finished in the lower half of the table for the first time (in the first iteration of the game, it won!)

85 different players had a go in the first 6 editions, 10 of them in all of them, and many others have had a go in the three currently running games.
For those stalwarts who have been in at least 3 of the first 6, the average scores are:

The asterisks in the final column indicate how many of the current games a team has entered. If I keep this as 50%+ participation, then some teams will drop out of this table and others will appear in due time.
Those two Collective teams are, I suppose unsurprisingly, not as susceptible to variations in form as individuals, although Squire somehow transcends them.
Bearing in mind his points already accrued in the 2020-22 and 2021-23 editions, I expect Skidmark to gain his 100,000th Emerging point sometime in March.

If I am reduced to this level of data crunching, I must be badly in need of some racing to watch...

I had lost the file with data from the six so far completed editions, but finally tracked it down.

Flo's winning score was the lowest yet, but by no means the least impressive performance:

and something similar will be seen in the 2020-22 results ( year1 top score there is only 43% of the average of previous Yr 1 top scorers)

We have a couple of new entries in the top 15 emergences {no squiggly spellcheck line, it is a real word} since CQ started, I hope I didn't miss any pre-game riders who exceeded 2000.

Hi AC, I've been already in 3 finished games I think (17-19, 18-20 and 19-21). Maybe you didn't count me because in the first ones I sent the teams via cyclingnews (as Cordi333) and in the last ones via velonews (as simply Cordi).

My average in the 3 years is 16.127. Taking in account that 2020 was *** up the last 2 games, I think is a good one. Only Squire is above me.
