Fauniera mioves up 4 places to 5th, and Josedin up 6 and into the top ten. Poor Vladimir was 4th on the day but dropped a place.

Standings

Masnada and Ventoso meant that the top two were both represented in the break, but only Masnada stayed in front of the GC riders, and so Archieboy extends his lead. Vladimir's decent returns are more rewarded in this classification, with him getting a 10 place jump to 12th. The only mover higher than that is Fauniera becoming the leading non-Carapazino challenger.

Thanks for the update(s)! I am really happy with my team despite only being 12th in the provisional rankings. So I basically think the quality of the teams picked for this competition is very high. Still plenty of exciting racing to go, but I guess I will need Nibali/Landa to finish first and second overall to stand a chance.

Your problem is that of the 11 teams above you, 10 have both Landa and Nibali. At least you have Formolo in today's break: that could close your gap to all bar 2 of those in front of you.

Pretty frustrating to maybe have picked the entire final podium and still not making the podium here...
Yep: there are 4 teams that have Carapaz/Nibali/Landa, and you are the 4th of them.

The comparative performances of Formolo and Masnada as the break evolves will be important.

Maybe not that important. Formolo outsprinted Masnada to get 10 extra stage points, they will both get a small GC projection rise, which will be worth more to Formolo. Gap at the top will close slightly.

Except that Formolo's GC gain was partly at the expense of Zakarin, and therefore the benefit to Torcia s limited. And Masnada moved up in the scoring part of the ciclamino ranking.

Need to go to the mother-in-law's: numbers later.

Standings

The top two got exactly the same score, albeit in different ways, so the margin is still 60 points. Tobydawq closes most of the gap to Scrool, so 4th place getting closer to third echoes what happened in the race. SafeBet and Laarsland are the Formolos of the day, moving into the top ten, but while SafeBet was only just outside the ten, Laarsland has made a 7 place jump to get there.

A sprint stage, presumably, tomorrow, so little change expected (Demare and Ackermann are not selected). But Cimolai, one of few real sprinters still in the race, has form in these games: in the 2017 Tour de France game his 7th place on the Champs Elysees brought about a change in the winner of the game: he is on two of the top 4 teams.

Stage 18 Not quite a sprint stage

Very little doing here, with the break survivor and the main sprinters unpicked, and no change above 22nd in GC, and none in the mountains. There are some stage points, and some losses in the points category to record.

Always nice when a unique pick pays off...

DJSprtsch builds on yesterday's movement to get into the top ten, JSG is up 10 places to 13th, and the appearance of Godchild and Search in the day's extended top ten means that every team now has at least a fraction of a point.

Purplish points

Flo moves up to the podium, and Fauniera also takes a step forward, and Koronin jumps 12 places to enter the top ten.
Only one team can possibly catch Scrool, but I can't see any likely outcome tomorrow that will make Torcia the top scorer.

Standings

Zakarin's gains might have brought Torcia close to leader Archie if they were not more than cancelled out by Formolo's losses: Formolo is also the main reason that Tobydawq has dropped away from Scrool's score in the battle for the podium.

Fauniera moves into the top five, and Googolplex into the ten, while Flo and Salvarani have 9 place jumps further down the table.

Almost all done: I suspect that much of today's change will be reversed tomorrow if, as expected, Roglic reclaims his podium position.

WooHoo!!!! I get two stage wins for the Giro. This is by far my most successful Grand Tour. Thank you Pello Bilbao for my two stage wins! He turned out to be by far my best pick for the Giro. I'm happily calling this a very successful Giro. I knew having a very unique team was either going to be a disaster or pay off big. With two stage wins I'm going with it paid off.

Stage 21 All done, with a rather uneventful ITT

As expected, Roglic and Landa swap places. In the absence of Haga from all our teams, that is the main effect of the stage. There is never a Pink Jersey bonus on the last stage.

Final standings

No change on the podium, who all scored identically today, while Josedin's omission of Landa gets him back to 5th, meaning the 5 Carapaz teams fill the final top five places. SafeBet gets back into the top ten, which now has exactly the same order as it had after stage 19, before Landa's brief stand on the virtual podium. Mellow Velo and Bike Racer33, who have 5 riders in common and have moved in almost perfect step with each other throughout the race, share the final jump of the day mention with a 6 place move.

Congratulations to ArchieBoy for his win(as with the Spring Classics game, the winner is a newcomer to these games), to Torcia and Scrool for filling the podium, and to Tobydawq and Josedin for also identifying Carapaz as the way to go. So, were you really tipping him to win, or just thinking he was one of the cheaper picks who had a decent top 5 or so chance?

Thanks to all who had a go, to the riders we invested our points in, to CQ for the scores and PCS whose result service I used.

I'll work out some rider numbers tomorrow.

Without wishing to put people off the Tour and Vuelta games, Tobydawq's near-podium here after his dominant performance in the Spring Classics game means that he is 1400 points clear in the 4 seasons challenge.

All these numbers, and more, are in the spreadsheet.

Tour starts on 6th July, scores will be based on up to 30 June, as in the download released on 1st July: I'll probably put up an initial post around about 28th June.

Just the three end of May updates to do for the Emerging Riders games this week, and I can look forward to more than a few CQ-free days for the first time since before the Omloop.
