¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Don't even need Passo del Brocon imo.

But really whatever. If you're gonna make a one climb *** stage, please don't use one that makes for a 3rd weak.

In 1982 they only had Grappa and then SMdC. Almost 250k and also only small gaps.That year Bianchi-Piaggio had three guys in the GC top 5 and were not able to beat Hinault. Imagine this would happen today. :D

Roglic must make the difference before Giro d'Italia time trial, say Jumbo-Visma

'2:16 in 17km is too much' to gain back on Carapaz in time trial

If Roglic has good legs then an attack in the last kms might get him some seconds. If Yates, Superman or Carthy go first, he could set up an alliance. Nibs problem is getting time on Carapaz.

I wish he would, watching him attacked in the Tour last year was great.

Don't know what to expect. Probably not much. Gaps like yesterday between the GC guys.

Good stage for Roglic by the looks of things if his legs are no worse, not so good for Nibali. Can't see this stage deciding much. Last two stages are the critical ones. The break probably won't survive this one and a few GC riders would like the time bonuses.

Re: 2019 Giro d'Italia Stage 19: Treviso-San Martino d. C. 1

I'm a little surprised thread most (not on this thread but more broadly) are predicting a GC day. With the super hard day tomorrow I'd be surprised if any of the GC teams use their domestique resources chasing the break today. Tomorrow will almost certainly be a GC day , so this is really the last chance for the breakers and I expect the start to be hectic.

For me the best candidates are:

Ciccone (obviously);
Hirt (seems to have great legs - I hope Astana let him go);
Sosa (I really hope they don't hold him back to protect Sivakov's GC and white jersey positions);
Madouas (doing wonderfully well in his first GT);
Capecchi (DQS's best hope to salvage something. If his legs are as good as they were on Stage 12 he can win).

That's a pretty amazing photo. I think this herd could cause a little trouble for the riders if it's still possessing the road.

I like how some of the individuals in the front group are looking back down the hill to see how much of a gap they have on the chasing peloton :)

A lot can happen in those hairpin tunnels.
...yeah, people get mugged :) . Basically a Col de la Faucille MTF. Meh. If you want to backload a design, at least get nuts with that one.

Maybe "not steep enough" will give better "all-arounders" than Carapaz a shot at something...not sure. Doubtful.

If this stage was held in the beginning it might be trivial.

Now Darkness & Desperation could LIGHT it up. With only 2 remaining after 19, Know, this stage has been considered for all it's worth, hopefully for Our enjoyment.

Is Landa allowed to attack?

As it seems Movistar's strategy is attack it's likely he will be. I think Carapaz said that the team basically said Landa can attack as long as no one who is a danger to Carapaz goes with him.

Best chance for QS to win a stage at this Giro - I'll go for L.Hamilton.

Lucas Hamilton is most assuredly not QS's best chance to win a stage. ;)
(although his form is obviously strong and he does have a good chance)

Since Demare messed up yesterday, hope Madouas gets a chance in the break. Otherwise Yates to have a dig to get Majka's spot on GC, Barring a major disaster, the top 4 to keep their powder dry for tomorrow.

Roglic will try to gain a few seconds towards the end, I expect. One power climb, should suit him, and he looked like he regained some form.

I think it will be for the breakaway. Bahrein probably won't work for the boni seconds, because that would give Carapaz a chance to steal them. My guess for the stage win: Pello Bilbao.

I have low confidence but the relatively shallow gradient might suit a power climber like Roglic - if he hasn't dropped off form. I am hoping he can surprise Nibali and Carapaz which would make for a climactic ending.

If I'm not mistaken last time San Martino di Castrozza was raced Danilo di Luca won and at least 10 riders finished ST.

Stage 4 2009 Giro -
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_Giro_d'Italia,_Stage_1_to_Stage_11#Stage_4
Sixteen riders finished with the same time as Di Luca, ten more were six seconds back, and a further 26 were inside a minute of his winning time.
Interestingly, that particular stage was on paper harder than today as before "Montevergine di Rolle" there was also Croce d'Aune from Feltre. I guess Brocon was feasible to at least give some suspence before the probable uphill bunch sprint a good way behind the breakaway. If you want to check out that 2009 stage see below:

I don't expect any Formigal situation as i guess the risk of big payment in the next two days may offset any gains today (see Zakarin/Mollema). In 2016 Formigal was the last Pyreneean stage after a hard ridden Aubisque MTF with Ahuski, Sudet and Marie-Blanque.
