the UCI Nation Ranking is a "running classification" over one year. So (as I said) I have manually removed the points from 2018, as they will not count in the end anyway

Woods the strongest. Valverde good for GdL. Still unclear who will win Lombardia but after this I'd say Birdsong and Bernal are not among the contenders.

No. Lombardia is an entirely different beast. It took Pinot 3 editions to be in the final mix , the best legs in the world in October and only one man to drop on Civiglio in order to win. It's impossible to gain a fairly large advantage on Civiglio on a larger group of elite climbers so that an average descender can keep a reasonable distance to stand a chance on the last climb and finish it off. Woods has no proper descending skills.
Milano Torino is not a race that favors Bernal at all. He was 10th last year here but then was very impressive in Lombardia. Endurance will matter a lot more on Saturday.
