Big day for GC guys. Anyone know how was the start order was decided?

Team classification.

With the added condition that the team of the leader must start last (in this case it makes no difference as Jumbo also lead the team classification).

With Ineos going first and being one of the better TTT teams, everyone else will have a target number to chase. Should be interesting.

Edit - update - see from rulebook https://netstorage.lequipe.fr/ASO/cycling_tdf/rules-reglement-tour-de-france-2019.pdf
On the stage 2 team time trial, teams will start at 5’ intervals in reverse order based on the team classification following stage 1, except for the race leader’s team, which will go off last
Thanks for the starting order info. Ineos is going to be in the hot seat for a long time.

Ineos have actually pretty much sucked at time trialing the entire 2019.

Both individual and team.

Castroviejo 2nd last today and Van Baarle and Kwaito not much ahead ... Saving for the TTT ?

Yes seems like it, though they were riding near the front for most of the day.

A few mentions on twitter that the wind gets slightly stronger later in the afternoon and it’s mainly a headwind into the finish. Looks like around a 5mph difference so probably not too bad.

A risky day for Richie Porte. Actually every day up to stage 9 is risky for Porte ;)

It's one day where Porte probably won't feel too stressed ! No descents helps.

It will cost some seconds.

Sunweb to win this with Jumbo and Mitchelton closely behind.
100% agree. I do think we'll see some very small gaps between the first 6 or so teams.

So, did Ineos do this on purpose? The wind may play in their favour a little bit - but they have no time splits to compare to. Ineos favourites according to the bookies, but I'd say Jumbo and DQS.

Also, I don't get why Michelton is considered 3rd favourite. They have both Yates' and Haig, that three guys that are of little use in a TTT. It's all about Watts and big guys, guys that weigh 55-65 kg are just not helping the rest.

That's a huge difference.
