Q all the "I really expected more from Bernal on this type of climb"

I wonder how much this has taken out of Dennis for the TT.

Bernal's gonna be really strong in few weeks.
Benoot remarkable.

Great to see Kamna perform here. So unexpected. I was already fearing another Herklotz with him.

Its not over at all. Dennis is a monster.

Bernal only could put 23 seconds into Dennis. Dennis probably takes the GC lead tomorrow. :surprised:
Yeah, probably. That means the last stage will be very good, so lets hope so for the race.

Another TT specialist turned into a climber!
It is happening more often than expected.
They both will be close tomorrow.

I think Soler was the Movistar rider who lost +3 min. Tsh....

He has climbed pretty well before tbh. But not like this. Its not out of the ordinary tho, Dennis obviously has the watts to do this.

These mountains just show that two TTs in a week-long stage race is overkill.

Dennis just diesels up and limits his losses on the climbs and then blows Bernal away on the flat TTs.

I'm not sure Dennis can gain 41 seconds on Bernal in 19 km after today's and yesterday's efforts.
He gained 23 seconds in the 9,5 prologue.
I sure hope he gains a lot more though, it'd be much better for Sunday's stage.

You tend to forget that those TT's will make the last stage really good...

The time trial is pancake flat. Bernal will lose about a minute to Dennis.

I still hope Bernal wins the overall tho'. But he needs to destroy the rest on Furkapass.

Today was mostly about the cobbles. You need to push over them all the time... always adding the power. Just like in the time trials.
Bernal and Pozzovivo ride in a similar way and have that quality.

They are likely to be pretty close on GC with 1 mountain stage to go where you would favor Bernal to take enough time most of the time, but sure 2 ITT's is overkill

Also maybe Bernal should attack further out than with less than 3km to go if he is at such a disadvantage because of the route

great stage with all the challenges added on to last climb - great win by Egan, but like many folks already pointed out- he has to go "earlier" to make larger gaps.
BTW - surprised about Betancour being able to be on the 3rd group.....

LOL. 28kms of TT is too much. are you freakin' kidding me?

the problem with present day stage races is that they are favoring the tiny climbers waaaaaaaaaay more than ever before.

stage races are supposed to be won -- and historically have been -- by ALL-ROUNDERS. Not tiny climbers.

it is only because the present day fan seems ONLY to appreciate mountain climbing in cycling.

there is a reason why the four most prolific tour riders in history (anquetil, merckx, hinault and indurain) were all ALL-ROUNDERS. Generally TT-ers who could hold their own mashing big gears in the mountains, particularly if the small climbers had been run roughly over some flat stages. pure climbers who won GTs are few and far between in the history of cycling...

Having said that, I still think Bernal should win this, because he actually time-trials pretty well.

It's possible, though the top of the climb is 25km from the finish.

Bernal can do rocket attacks which look spectacular but then it seems he can't do much more. The train looks perfect for him, launch with 2-3 km to go.

He kept pulling out the gap all the way to the line today
