Friday's stage 5 Caldaro/Kaltern to Bolzano/Bozen 147.8 km
start 11.45 CET TV from 14.00 CET

A short neutralized transfer Caldaro/Kaltern will take the peloton to the KM 0 by the Lago di Caldaro/Kalternsee. The riders will head toward Termeno/Tramin and then reach Egna/Neumarkt to tackle the short but challenging ascent to Montagna/Montan. The descent to Ora/Auer will lead out to another passage through Caldaro/Kaltern before entering the SS 43m, that will take the race to Bolzano/Bozen for the first time. After crossing the city, the race follows the SS 12 to Ponte Gardena/Waidbruck, then will turn left for a demanding and panoramic ascent to Barbiano/Barbian. The road goes up inconsistently, with short stints with double-digit grandients, until reaching the sunny plateau of Collalbo/Klobestein. A long descent on a wide roads with open turns will take the riders back to Bolzano/Bozen, passing on the finish line for the first time with 45 km to go. Just out of Bolzano/Bozen, it will be time for the hard and spectacular ascent to San Genesio/Jenesien, the last categorized climb of the 2019 Tour of the Alps, and from there - alternating short descents and uphill drags up to 13%, up to the Altopiano del Salto. Only 25 km will be left to the finish line of the final TotA stage, 16 mostly on descent and the last 9 on flat roads until the grand finale in Piazza Vittoria/Siegesplatz.

Not expecting fireworks for the last stage - Sky plus Astana, Majka & the Nibalis all in a line until the last couple of kms when we have a little sprint action.

Everybody's happy and on to the next race.

I have to think that Nibali in his best shape wouldnt have problems disposing of the Sky young duo on the climbs. Or maybe Nibali is in top shape and somehow both of them are on the same level.

This, I'm afraid. Nibali in top form getting dusted by Sky neo-pros.

Why do you keep calling them neo-pros?
Is tao even a neo pro? I think sivakov is or at least I remember someone on this forum claiming you are a neo pro in your first two years with a pro contract. But hasn't tao been around for quite a bit longer than that?

Yes, he has, and in any case I don't think you should call them a neo-pro if they're on their second year. It's of course their first contract but then the term becomes unecessarily technical for me. What if Bernal had kept his 4 year-long contract with Androni? Then he would still have to be called a neo-pro in his 4th year as a pro!

The UCI's official definition of a new professional, or neo-pro, is "any rider who joins a UCI WorldTeam or UCI Professional Continental Team for the first time no later than during his twenty-fifth year". Technically, such riders remain neo-pros for two seasons since they must be given contracts of at least two years,...

First youngster of interest for 2018 was coincidentally Sivakov. Hart was a neo-pro from 2017 so technically he's not a neo-pro now.

The last climb, Jenesien - San Genesio, is actually longer then the roadbook profile. The steep part is the first part and then it goes up and down to the top -

http://www.ciclismointernacional.com/tour-of-the-alps-2019-stage-5-preview/
18.6km at 6.1%, with a maximum of 26.8%; the organisers have saved the best for last. The figures are actually distorted by a section of flat, before the road kicks up again. The climb also features some cobbles as we head through the town, this is a nasty effort and one that will see the strongest riders rise to the top. The opening 12km of the climbing averages a whopping 8.5%, this would be an HC climb in the Giro.

26.8% that can't be right?

It'll just be the steepest point in a corner or something I would think. 26.8% on this part of the road for exactly 2.35m on a line no rider would take...

On Eurosport NL they're showing snooker.

There's not a single man, woman or non binary person in this country who gives a damn about snooker
