Sounds like this was an insane ITT. Congrats to Ganna, although not surprising.

The result for Yates couldn't have been better. Lots of complaints from the riders about the road surface and the wind obviously. If Dennis thought it was dangerous God knows what the small climbers made of it. Lopez not having much of a time of it ............

Bardiani setting new standards for badness. Their best rider was Filippo Zana in 144th. They already lost Luca Covili to the time limit (he must have crashed).

The whole podium of yesterday's stage rode their very first GT stage.

The last time that happened was on the opening stage of the Tour in... 1947!!! After WW2, which I think was a bit longer than the corona break ;)

And no, it's not my own digging.

In the end Rik Verbrugghe can be thankful that the roads were wet. Ganna must have taken a few bends a bit slower to avoid the risk. Ganna did 58.831 kph; Verbrugghe did 58.874kph - a difference of 43 m/h only! Now Verbrugghe's record might stand for many more years.

Such statistics put unrealistic trust in the precision of course measurement. Unless anyone can assert confidently that either or both courses were accurately measured to within 20 metres or so, then we cannot claim to know which rider was fastest.

And we never see any attempt to present courses as measured to anything closer than nearest 100 metres.

Yeah, I am not even sure that there are rules for course measurement in place after a quick scan of the UCI regulations.
