We'll see how good he is, but the U23 circuit in Spain is very decent. There's definitely some to be pro's in there, Raul Garcia Pierna, Ivan Cobo (unfortunately not related to Juanjo), Alberto Serrano (Gonzalo's little brother), Juan Martin, Fernando Tercero. Carlos Rodriguez (Ineos) was said to be starting as well, but he might already be in Plouay for the European Championships.
Javier Serrano * Alberto Serrano is another madrilene rider. And it's Alex Martin. But yes, today, the Spanish scene is underrated. The 1999/2000/2001 and 2002 are really talented in Spain. And we can named many others riders (Jordi Lopez [1998], Ibon Ruiz, Josu Etxeberria, Jon Barrenetxea, Jokin Murguialday, Pablo Garcia, Carlos Garcia, Eugenio Sanchez, Sinuhé Fernandez, Raul Lopez etc etc...).
Javier Romo (1999) rides for Castille-La Mancha, he was recruited by the Basque team Baqué BH (ex Murias staff' Ruben Perez leads the team) after the post quarantine. He had been very strong during the Torneo Euskaldun in Villatuerta a few weeks ago. It was his first race. In fact, he was in the lead and missed the last corner and finished 4 or 5. But his teammate and leader Barrenetxea won the race. Indeed, he is a former triathlete, top 10 of the world junior championships a few years ago (2017). He decided to stop everything because : - first he won nothing (races) and - two because he won....nothing (money). To pass the time, he started training with his bike with Óscar Sevilla & Héctor Carretero. They saw that he had a good level and Sevilla told him to start cycling. Before the Spanish Championships he explained that he loves the sport, so welcome to the new Evenepoel.
Honestly, the results of the U23 Spanish Championships are often surprising. But today....
