We have seen sprinters like Cipollini who couldn’t cross a motorway bridge without getting into difficulties win the Worlds so why shouldn’t pure climbers get a rare chance that is aimed directly for them.
Exactly. Having neither would be best but if guys like Cav and Cipo get an opportunity, give Nairo and Landa a shot once a decade. I'd rather watch that than another bunch sprint WC, any way.

By sheer coincidence Lake Como is just halfway between PDBF and Imola as the bird flies. Shame it won't happen.

I mean, I prefer a mountainous route as that was originally planned but I hate the PdBF idea so I still kinda prefer Imola.

In fairness, that would be like in 2025 the earliest? A lot of the coming WC's already have hosts
Hmm.

Scrap 2020, just gib jersey to Nibali then?

Nah but seriously I'd most prefer for a mountainious route to have a longer circuit with 2 different climbs with the harder one first.

Just do Imola and do mountain route some other time.

I think UCI intends to respect the PT riders. Bear in mind a lot of riders have planned the season in mind that the WC2020 will be the most mountain-like one since Bogota '95.
So in that perspective I'm convinced UCI will do everything to find a route more comparable with Martigny Petite Forclaz climb than several passes of Tre Monti after Autodromo leaving Enzo e Dino Ferrari at Variante Alta. Such route reminds more of a Firenze 2013 with the Fiesole climb - suiting other types of riders, than riders doing 10%@4k several times.

Not me. PDBF overused, yes. Nuking it? No. But every 5-6 years would be OK. It's PInot land and he is inspiring kids to ride: I get it and support it.

Worlds should be a rotation, sprinters, punchers, climbers. Not just sprinters: they can go on the track to be world champions.

Add classics routes for the classics specialists.....the Richmond type courses (although not necessarily doing as laps around a city).

Yes, that's what I qualified as "punchers". The Forez, for example, has a bunch of climbs next to each other, some are 3 km at 10%, one by a convent even worse like 17%. Les Gorges du Tarn are pretty good too, around La Maleine. I so agree with you.

Ah ok, so rotate between hilly and an occasional cobbled classics worlds?

According to Tuttobici it's Imola. For the individual road race the lap will be bigger than the usual Tre Monti climb, adding other two climbs per lap going in Riolo Terme zone, for a total of 33-34 Kms per lap and 4000+ climbing meters.

Time Trials on 24.9. and Road Races on the 26.9. and 27.9.

U23 and Juniors won't race this year.
