That one is going right to my breakaway ride hall of fame. Riding Roche and Cavagna off his wheel is nothing short of incredible. Really enjoyed this stage.

Agreed. Insane performance. But unlike Ulissi, he could just chill on Sega di Ala yesterday because he had to drag the inferior Hugh Carthy to the finish. He is at an absolutely incredible level right now.

My guilty pleasure is reading the thread after the race and laugh at people's comments and predictions (although I was the first claiming it was over when I saw Cavagna get a gap). Awesome ride Albe!

Ulissi could/should have chilled as well. Not sure why he rode as hard as he did with today's stage looming. Not as if he was going to win yesterday.

He was also in the 2nd gc group with Remco, Yates, Dan Martin, Bardet and Formolo on the uphill finish on stage 4, he's in great shape. Cassani has to bring him to the Olympics.

He wasn't that far away, either.
1:20 is pretty far away if you ask me. It would be different if he'd been in the break. He performed better than we all thought but he can't have thought he had any realistic chance of the win going into that final climb with the GC guys. Why go so deep?

That stage was a lot more fun than I expected. Last 20 kms was very entertaining. Well taken win by Bettiol, he blew Cavagna away on the final climb.
