Those hills at the end might not look that hard on paper, but they are coming at the end of a long stage in the third week of what has been a really tough Giro. DQS and BE should at a very least push a hard tempo in those final hills, just to test if anybody is paying for yesterdays efforts. Almeida has great legs and nothing to lose and Yates would be smart to avoid affording Bernal a full rest day on wheels after what happened on yesterday.

Will Bettiol get a chance to ride for himself? Those final hills look perfect for him.

Probably should do. Carthy's podium hopes are basically done and it's a good oppo for the team to grab a stage win instead

He looked really strong yesterday, he was a lot better than Carthy.
He should try his luck in hillier one day races and in some of the shorter stage races, he seems to have the climbing ability to do that.

I must say Bettiol is one mercurial rider as well.

Let's say he's got the climbing ability on selected days. Not sure if he's the one selecting them or he's just very inconsistent.

Ciccone had a bad night, couldn't sleep because of pain. Team opted to take him out and focus on future goals.

As an aside, as yesterday's stage thread is a long one to trawl through.

What/who actually caused the crash that Ciccone went down in, does anybody know?

I don't want to cast aspertions here, but I wondered at the time if any of the Trek riders were responsible? The reason I ask is because after Ciccone's mechanical just before the top of the previous climb, with Nibs and Ghebreizabhier waiting up for him, it was obvious that the three of them would then be gunning it on the descent.

It was a really unfortunate time to get a mechanical for Ciccone. Think it denied us all seeing another Nibali descending masterclass. And then who knows what Ciccone could have done after that. He was looking good.
