Race 7 GP Industria & Artigianato Was it on TV anywhere? I know nothing other than the result.

Only one of the first 30 finishers had been chosen by any of us. But that one finisher was the winner, has gained a massive return on his cost, and was on seven teams: Mauri Vansevenant wins 130 points for:
Amis Velo
Blues in the Bottle
ChrisDK
Josedin
Kazistuta
Leadbelly
Mellow Velo

and they each get 31.03 green points each (I'm deducting the 0.4 points that arise from the sum of 8th to tenth divided by the 15 non-scorers from every team)

The racing calendar focuses on on week events for the next week and a bit: the next part of this game is Nokere Koerse on Wednesday week. My update may be late if I am celebrating St Patrick's Day.

Race 8: Nokere Koerse

After a week or so off for the one week races, the one day races are back with not much of a bang.

Something similar to be expected on Friday in Koksijde, then the first of the classics and hopefully some large scores on Saturday.

Race 9: Bredene Koksijde Classic

Rather more points than I had expected, but so many of them were earned by one almost ubiquitous choice means that it doesn't make so much difference.

Standings
Josedin's lead becomes almost intimidating, but he has none of the big favourites for Milan-San Remo tomorrow, and that has a much more generous point scale. I suspect it will not look as much of a lost cause for the also rans by this time tomorrow.

The top 4 all come from VR

Six teams have Van der Poel for tomorrow, and four have Alaphilippe; none have Van Aert. Who will be harvesting the bigger points available?

Race 10: Milan-San Remo

Not the main scorers that we might have expected, but lots of points and movement in the tables.

Josedin had only Turgis and Pidcock of the top 20, and nearly everyone has made up ground on him. He still has a considerable lead, but it looks a little less intimidating than it was.
Chris is the big mover, Blues and Madrazo may be the more significant ones.

Battle of the forums
CN 763
VR 880

Back up to Belgium for the next 4 events, the pre-Ronde races, starting with De Panne on Wednesday. Until then, browse the numbers at your leisure.

My first attempt to update on CN ground to a halt, the forum software didn't seem to like the embedded tables.

Then I put it in the wrong thread: oops

Race 11: De Panne (Oxyclean if you must)

Even at 2020 prices, top sprinters are a bit pricey for this game.

Those in today's race that were selected by our managers:

E3 on Friday should see more of the riders that we have chosen. But will they score decent points?

Race 12: E3 Harelbeke

Not quite as many points as Omloop or Milan-San Remo, but pretty high scores today.

Nobody chose Asgreen, but Josedin, top of the table, had runner up Senechal as a unique pick.

The 11 day tour of Flanders continues into Wevelgem on Sunday.

Race 13: Gent-Wevelgem

Wout van Aert, although he has taken more points in the races that make up this game than anyone else, was presumably deemed too expensive by all the managers. But plenty of managers had interest in that breakaway.

Cycling News: 1169
Velorooms: 1331

Next up is the big one on Saturday. Well, Big Mig anyway, the GP Indurain. But I think I can only find three riders who have been selected for the game on the startlist for that one. Sunday though...

Sorry if this has been hard to read: if there is an admin or a tecchie type who can address the issue, it would be much appreciated. I'll raise the issue on the 'About the Forum' board, but I suspect that is a largely abandoned zone.

You might find the tables easier to read in their incarnation over at Velorooms.

Race 15: GP Indurain
I was right, there were only three riders selected for the game in the race, but they all finished in the top ten.

Lutsenko's second place earns 78 points, and 65 green points, for Del1962 and DJSprtsch; Neilands came 6th, getting 46 (35 green) for ChrisDK, and De Plus finished 10th, scoring 24 for Triley36 (25 green points). Everyone else gets 2 green points, because that's the way it works.

In the green classification ChrisDK breaks the tie with Josedin, and moves into a 33 point lead, DJS and Del each move up 5 places, to 5th and 13th respectively, and Triley moves up one spot.

In the main overall, Chris moves up one spot to 6th, DJS up 3 to 8th, Triley up one spot and Del up two.

Tomorrow's update should take longer, and make the tables worthwhile. For the 4 people who might be bothered to see today's data, the tables are in the usual place.

And according to the principle that I put in the opening post, with 15 races having been staged, I will not be re-opening the game for any events postponed to the autumn, which means that the game finishes in Liege.

Race 16: Ronde van Vlaanderen

For the 6th race in a row, nobody picked the winner, but even so, the scores in this race were massive.

Obviously the 2020 suppression of points in the cost of riders helped, but I am fairly sure we have not had race scores anything like that high in the Classics game before.

Green points
If it is not inappropriate to apply stage race analogies to a Classics game, Madrazo was already in yellow, and won the stage, thereby taking the green jersey too. Though I guess ChrisDK will have to wear green while watching Scheldeprijs on Wednesday.

The top 6 teams in the Ronde were all already in the top eight here, so the big scores did not shake up the table as much as they might have. Amis Velo moving to second is the most significant change, but 500 points today gives Madrazo a healthy margin at the pivotal point of the game.

With the postponement of Paris-Roubaix beyond the time frame of this game, we have now reached the end of scoring for those picks who specialise in the bumpy roads, and (after the sprinters' roller derby in Scheldeprijs and the strange in-between that is the Brabantse Pijl) it will be down to what spaces we left in our teams for the hill climbers.

It looks like it is for Philippe Gilbert to defend Madrazo's lead in the Ardennes against whatever Jungels and Vansevenant might manage for Amis Velo and Josedin, but as ever, something unexpected might happen, and it could all be a matter of who will have most guys trailing in with the grupetto for five points.

Wednesday brings us back here for Scheldeprijs, but the main scorers there tend to be expensive sprinters who are not widely picked in the game. But with Merlier (ChrisDK) and Bol (Kazistuta) we might get something other than scraps.

See you then.

As I suspected, not much more than scraps, but at least a popular pick means there are scraps for plenty of us.

Green points
Any manager could score, in theory, another 240 points, if they topscore in the three remaining events, which would mean that anyone down to Triley in 15th could still win.

The leader seems to be running out of steam, and two are chasing him down relentlessly. As we head into the final hills, it seems that these three will comprise the podium, but in what order? Or will someone emerge, like Cosnefroy, to try to chase them down? And if so, will it turn out not to be Cosnefroy-esque, but more like AGR 2019? The race situation in Brabantse Pijl and our game seem to be echoes of each other. I had overlooked Pidcock in my summary of who might hold the key in my post-Ronde roundup: neither I nor Wout Van Aert should have underestimated him.

And the top three become even more closely bunched, with a change to their order, while Leadbelly makes that late charge towards the podium that I wondered about in the last update.

Two races left, it will all be done this weekend, but still much to be finalised. The Mur de Huy will set things up tomorrow...

Liege-Bastogne-Liege on Sunday is the 21st and final race of the series, and that neatly parallels the 21 stages of a GT for our game. From the startlists, I don't think it is more likely to change the leadership than the final stage of most GTs, but this is cycling, and one can never be sure.

Rookie mistake. Wait, i think I won this last fall. So maybe I was too cocky.
And my original team which I submitted, which I changed at the last minute when Lutsenko looked like crap, would have been even worse.

Final Green Points standings

Maybe some consolation for Madrazo, who lead the main scoring until the end of the cobbles, but virtually disappeared from scoring in the Ardennes(ish) 4 race coda to the spring.

The final standings

This game is all about getting a balance between the variety of races that make up the series: after Scheldeprijs, Madrazo was top and Googolplex was last. In the 4 races since then, Madrazo scored 56 points and Googolplex 1025. Leadbelly scored a dozen points fewer, but had been mid-table before that final few hillier races. All four Alaphilippe teams, including the aforementioned lanterne rouge team, make the final top ten. And Leadbelly's margin over Josedin means that there's no argument about the notorious Huy photo changing the result.

572 different riders scored points in these races: unfortunately, that only includes 80 of the 91 riders that we picked. These are the highest scoring of them:
