Yes, but probably the quietest GC top 5 he's ever done. Much better than was expected three weeks ago but still not really a fitting final GT, imo.

Tbf he clearly doesn't have much left. He tried for a stage and just doesn't really have it anymore (which isn't a surprise with his age). Even the 4th in GC is cos 5-10 in GC were quite bad.

Firstly, finally we get a decent GC battle, but why oh why did Hindly wait until now to do this? Looking how strong he is he could've had the Giro wrapped up by a minutes before coming into today's stage.....

I think this perspective might take some recency bias. Carapaz had a bad day; I don't think Hindley was that much better than him throughout the race.

(1) If Tao Geoghegan Hart > Hindley (from TGH's Giro win), and
(2) Hindley > Carapaz, then
(3) TGH > Carapaz

Evenepoel beat TGH two days ago... just saying.
And Valverde beat Evenepoel in Valencia...

Assuming nothing weird happens Ineos absolutely, 100% deserve to lose that Giro for riding they way they did with the strongest team and one of the race favorites.

Hindley also a very strange case. Does not have a good ITT, never does anything, and still after yesterday's stage looked extremly disappointed and talking something about trying, attacks and getting a gap in the interview...

What a joke of a race. I missed 80km of the stage because I was busy, tuned in for bottom of Fedaia, and was stunned to find out nobody had attacked.

Carapaz had the chance to gain 40 seconds on Hindley in Blockhaus if he rode with more commitment. But even that might not have been enough

Nobody had Hindley in their radar back then. Let's be honest!

I'm not saying it was a terrible ride and I definitely agree he was helped by the field being abysmal, but a solo stage win and no GC would have been a more fitting end, imo.

Kämna did a quite good job in the end, I have to admit. Toying with Crapaz and then dropping him certainly was no boost for his moral.

I also get the impression that Hindley is a Basso style diesel who lacks the acceleration to drop his opponents and needs to grind them down on really steep slopes.
Covi showed panache and deserved to win and Kämna was outstanding once Hindley caught him, his pull totally wrecked Carapaz.

For one Tour Buchmann was the only guy that could follow Pinot and Bernal in the mountains. Shadow of that rider still managed to finish this years Giro in the top 10.

Of course I was not that serious, compared to even Schachmann, let alone Hindley and Buchmann, König is just a promise with no fulfillment

Astana also lost their gc rider early, so the team wanted (and probably also needed) him to ride for the gc.

Kind of difficult as where he was in GC for ages, he wouldn't have been allowed go for a stage win. Then as the race go on, he got more tired and he was still high enough in GC that Bora, Bahrain and Ineos are going to chase him.
