Asgreen is much better than some would think; he was already good in Omloop het Nieuwsblad, but had to come back from bad luck too many times. But I feel Pogacar is pacing himself a bit more now, because he knows it's still a long way.
Quickstep should've switched the leadership to Asgreen immediately after Alaph crashed and was left behind. Instead, Asgreen was in the front of the peloton, catching the wind for a long time. Apparentely Alaph was overconfident about his strenghts after he came back to the peloton and on that climb when Pogi went away he was actually the one who initiated the action while his legs were already quite empty and he had nothing to respond with.

probably the adrenaline hid Alaphilippe's back pain that he is feeling now more and more.

Wellens was not working in the group with Asgreen. Only Simmons and Narvaez were taking turns.

It just disappoints me when experienced riders like Wellens and Valverde do not take turns. And then when somebody takes off from the chasers they want to work all of a sudden.
I honestly think Wellens is in survival mode. I don't see him surviving the last steep slope in Siena. I could be wrong though, but even then, he clearly feels he could be dropped anytime and a podium is the highest he can achieve.

Yes, close races are never remembered. What's the most famous Tour? What's the most fondly-remembered Paris-Roubaix of the past decade, the Boonen solo or the Hayman win. What about the AGR Van der Poel won, 10+ riders within 10 seconds, forgettable right?

hmm. I guess “rarely” doesn’t register as having any meaning?

there is a reason cycling’s history is largely filled with the exploits of merckx, coppi, Hinault, etc. one really cannot argue with that fact.

what Pog needs is one or two challengers that are close (so u might get an 1989 TDF). You don’t need 10-20 riders on equal level. You need 2 or 3 great riders. This race would likely be VERY different with an in form VDP and WvA. It’s also y the mind boggles why so many “fans” don’t want Remco to live up to his potential…

Wellens is just trying to survive lol, he rides when he can. He'll probably gets dropped in exactly 1 minute.
