Depends on whether QS thinks they need to take advantage of Remco’s scintillating form asap.

If so, it’s actually on the second to last climb that I would expect Remco fireworks. My guess is Rog alone follows.

Or break wins and GC does nothing. Haha.

Nibali didnt stand a chance. After that Vuelta, Antón never reached this level outside a few stages in the Giro of 2011. :(:(
Wow, that acceleration looked like a scene from the film “Jumper.” One moment Anton is next to Nibali and the next he is 15 meters in front of him

can't really see who.

Here's a better profile of the finish, btw:

Ok, Hayter's out imho.

If Hindley is on form we'll find out here. If he sprints like he did at the Giro he's a solid chance.

looks like about 1km at 8.5% for the final climb

Would seem perfect for a stomp, but his condition is uncertain. Same with Alap

Can Evenepoel go at 8w/kg over the final km?
Yes, but so can everybody else.

I notice on the PCS profile that the road actually starts gradually going up 3km from the finish. If that's accurate, the only chance he has is of beating the others mentioned in this topic so far, is if the pace is very high before the final km. He won a somewhat similar finish in Norway, where he started sprinting early and only Johannessen got close, while Hayter didn't have the legs to follow. But there the final 3k were steeper on average, yet the final 1k was less steep compared to here. Competitors included Hayter, Chaves, Hart, Plapp, Prades, Johannessen... No Roglic, Carapaz, Almeida, Higuita... He could do well, but i don't think he is a likely winner from a sprint.

In the old days, 2020 and 2021 before crashes, they wouldn't even need to ride the stage, as a Roglstomp would have been a foregone conclusion.

Ye maybe im overrating Evenepoel here, but I wouldn't be surprised by him winning looking at the profile. I have seen much weirder things happen, and the riders on paper who should beat him all have some serious question marks.

Exactly. No way 2020 Rogla loses this if he wanted it.

I personally hope he or Alaf wins this just for comeback's sake. JV can always hand off the red jersey to someone else later on

can't really see any for Higuita, apart from positioning issues maybe. I'd think if it ends up in whatever kind of group sprint, he has a very good to chance to win

So the Dutch stages were broadcast in their entirety, and now we're back to the standard format.
Wonder what Spanish stages shall be fully broadcast.

Here in Bulgaria many people seem to be expecting (or hoping for?) a win by Thomas De Gendt.
Do you guys think he actually has a chance? o_O

"Talk to the hand" Hugh Carthy. The sign in process now looks like they have to show their hand to some sensor. The team presentations is live now.

I want to see the start of the races, like in the tour. I enjoy the starts almost as much as the finishes! Granted it's more fun with the excellent breakaway guys for watching that, but still it's a highligt for me. Mid stage is the least exciting barred the views if they're good.

according to RTVE:
  • etape 1: Utrecht-Utrecht
  • etapa 2: ‘s-Hertogenbosch-Utrecht
  • etapa 3: Breda-Breda
  • etapa 8: La Pola Llaviana. Colláu Fancuayana. Yernes y Tameza
  • etapa 9: Villaviciosa. Les Praeres. Nava
  • etapa 15: Martos-Sierra Nevada. Alto Hoya de la Mora. Monachil
  • etapa 20: Moralzarza-Puerto de Navacerrada
  • etapa 21: Las Rozas-Madrid. Paisaje de la Luz
so basically all the weekend stages, apart from #14. Guess it'll be the same on Eurosport

Just out of curiosity, how much time (if any..) Remco can get on Roglic in the TT, as this is important for how the race and perhaps this stage unfolds? I'm guessing around 30 sec.

As for the stage itself, I don't think Jumbo would control and I don't see why any other team would chace only to risk a roglstomp. Quick Step would (or even could) but they have a bigger fish to fry and Ala's form is question mark.
