Whatever might have gone wrong (or right) in the Tour de France, or for whatever reason one was missing from it, there is one main chance left to redeem the season for those who specialise on stage races, whether they are cyclists, teams, sponsors or participants in forum-based fantasy leagues: La Vuelta a España.
The time has come to give your prediction skills one final spin, and so, once again, I invite entries of teams of 8 riders who will take place in the Vuelta, whose collective CQ score (note 1) for the last 12 months (note 2) does not exceed 3500.
Entries can be sent to me right up to the start of stage one (18:30Spanish Dutch time on Friday 19th) by PM at VeloRooms or Cycling News (note 3)
Teams will score the points gained by their riders according to the Cycling Quotient scale (note 4): the decision made by that website will determine any controversies. There will be daily (or at least near daily, I do have some travels booked during the race...) updates, and a minor classification based on stage points only for those who rashly fill their team with sprinters.
Hopefully any questions will be met by the footnotes below, if not, drop me a note.
It's just a bit of fun and a sidebar of interest during the race (unless you are competing at the top of the 4 seasons championship, in which case it is deadly important), so have a go.
1) If you don't know cqranking.com, it really should be one of your bookmarked pages, and these games are very much indebted to it.
2) Points are gained, and expire, on CQ ranking (almost) daily, but I operate according to the downloadable tables that are usually made available on Mondays. So the prices should be the scores to Sunday 14th, as contained in the download on Monday 15th. HOWEVER, CQ have been a bit late with this on some weeks recently, so if that is not posted on their site by 6 pm UK time on Monday, I will revert to the previous download, of prices to Sunday 7th. I shall make in clear in this thread, and the prices will be available from the downloads page on CQ Ranking, on each rider's page (but watch out for those daily fluctuations), from a team selection spreadsheet available here A lists of prices will also appear on this thread as the team naming nears completion.
3) Please make my life easier by sending names in CQ's format (surname forename) with nothing else on the same line (I already know their teams and prices). If you have are overbudget or choose a non-entrant, I will alert you to it as soon as I can: that's trickier if you leave your entry until the last minute. I have an established pattern for making replacements if you don't, but probably don't want to enter into that lottery. I will send my team asap to the first entry after prices are confirmed (which is usually, but does not have to be, Comodoro).
4) The full scale of points is on CQ (column GT2 here, and on the selection spreadsheet, but in short 500, 375, 315 dropping to 15 for 51st or any other finisher on GC; 70, 40, 25 down to 1 for 10th in each stage (truncated quarter of that for TTT) and also for points and KoM categories, and 18 for the overnight leader.
