It was 100% his fault imo. The guy was falling back in the peloton, diagonally to his right while looking to his left. That's what you get for being in the middle of the sprinters to not lose 10s.
Haven't seen the replay yet. But yeah he doesn't need to be there. These 3km rules may be 10km imo. Let the sprint teams do their thing.

Edit: the red guys (Ineos?) came from behind, the first one touches him first.

I can't for the life of me understand how cav basically crashed 3 times in 25m and then lost it over the line.

Remco seemed to swerve madly off and caused the crash but is angry. No replays yet so maybe there was something I didn't see.

Bizarre stuff

Cav back wheel completely slipped on the white line when he opened up. Looked like he had some good speed. Crazy slippery finish. unfortunately cav moving right back in the line collided with dainese smelling the gap on the left side. Nasty crash :(

Dainese clipped Cavendish when leaving his line...
That was just a racing incident. Cav slipped on the white line, backed off, then drifted to his right into Dainese, then Dainese went for an opening, and clipped Cav's wheel...but Cav put himself in the soup, when he should have just went left and backed off, because it was clear it was not his day.

Corratec 6th place says enough about the stage.

No seriously good result for them, but these kind of stages need te be neutralised in the last 10km. Just let the sprinters take risks for the win if they want. Italian roads are just to slippery in this kind of weather.

After re-watching the helicopter shot replay, it was clear that Remco was looking behind on his left side and at the same time moving to his right, while trek rider comes fast on the right, and when Remco looks forward it's too late. I'm no pro, but in my eyes, that's on him and him alone.
