Also why does this race have such a distance? Every year since 2017 well over 200 km presumably with quite some climbing involved - is this the hardest race on the calendar?

We go again, because the New Zealand nationals are about to start in South Waitako. From what I've heard Corbin Strong nor Patrick Bevin will be there, but Bennett, Rrrrrrrreuben and Pithie should, as far as the World Tour goes.

The time trial (33k) starts in Tokoroa, near the Memorial Grounds. No real climb, but constant up and down. There is one section on Mossop Road of ~8%, but nothing major. Road race follows the same circuit, only 173k though. However, knowing New Zealand, the race might be over once Black Spoke insert someone into the break.

As far as juniors go, I got my eyes on Carter Guichard. Weird name for a Kiwi? Well, he's half French. Very talented kid, should be with AG2R next year.

Black Spoke riders went 1,2 & 3 in the Elite men’s race of the NZ national champs… James Oram 1st narrowly out sprinted team mate Ryan Christensen with Tom Sexton rounding out the podium in 3rd.

The U23 title was taken out by Black Spoke’s Logan Currie from FDJ’s Reuben Thompson.

It’s good to see Oram finally bag a nationals, bad luck for Thompson up against that opposition but great ride any way you look at it.

I fail to understand why Campbell Stewart from Jayco rode in this race - He's never going to win on this parcours and he is better served by continuing his development as a good quality lead out rider.

So, on the 12th of February, EF are only one win away from matching the tally of the whole of last season.

I realise a lot of them have been Nationals, but that is still pretty crazy!

That finish was pretty cool. Crowd seemed to be really into it, and I think EF earned that jersey, didn't see the race ofc but looks like Caicedo did the lion's share of the pulling.
