British course is difficult, hilly, says 3500-4000m of elevation, field should be decent too, Wright and Turner if he's doing it will be favourites.

Thread popping up reminds me of the Colombian nationals from a few months ago. Incredible scenes, I love the aesthetic, so many people that I thought the road was about to collapse in, Nairo going for it in the black and white on his own bike too!

Whoa. That's a lot of elevation for a UK Nationals. As much as the Yorkshire Worlds, but on a much shorter course (190K). Main riders I could find so far:

Ineos - Thomas, Tullet, Tarling, Turner, Leo Hayter, Swift, Swift, Rowe
FDJ - Watson, Askey, Stewart
EF - Shaw, Doull, Carr
Bahrain - Wright

Unfortunately, looks like Gloag, Poole and Onley aren't listed? Hoping Wright and Turner can bounce back from disappointing classics seasons. Carr is my outside bet on such a tough course. No idea of Thomas's form since the Giro. As is traditional on Nationals weekend, it's the last one to finish around 1820 CET on Sunday.

In the women's race, last year's surprise winner Alice Towers will do well to defend her title against the like of Georgi, Henderson, Shackley and Barker.

Thomas said on his podcast last night he isn't doing it, Onley and Poole might but I think DSM are giving them a rest after stacked pro debut seasons.

Connor Swift looks good too for the TT but Tarling has been targeting it apparently

It's mostly a circuit in the Alps, or rather the Prealps. This is the main climb on the circuit - 3.9k at 6.5% as per the official info, with a steep final kilometre, final time up it ending just inside the final 15k. They then leave that circuit for the MTF/HTF, which is 2.7k at 9.4% with a middle section of 1.7k at 12.2%. It's proper hard.

Does anyone know what races will be on GCN. Can see at least French and Spanish races on linear Eurosport in the UK.
Doesn't seem to have been any expansion in coverage after the Discovery takeover, at least as far as The UK is concerned.

Saturday - French and Spanish women's races
Sunday - Men's, plus both UK races. The latter are usually on The BBC if you can access that.

USA in Knoxville again, as mentioned above.

I was looking at the start list the other day and McNulty was the only WT rider.

And the website sucks, as it does every year.

The US should stop using the same dates for the championship as the European countries.

Most their WT riders cannot go to the US 6 days ahead of the Tour starting.

EF already have 4 NCs this year if you count ITTs.

It's already more than most teams will get in total.

I don't know what the British course looks like but with Carr, Doull and Shaw (if they're riding) I'm not even sure if Carthy is their best bet for that race.

Other EF riders that could potentially win if they're riding and if the race profile is right (I haven't checked any of those things) include:
- Kudus in Eritrea
- One of the Van den Bergs in the Netherlands (Marijn for reduced sprint, Julius for a solo)
- Rutsch or Steinhauser in Germany
- Bissegger in Switzerland for ITT

I have a sneaky suspicion on Valgren for the Danish RR.

He is nearing his level from before his long term injury, and the route suits him really well (same route as the one Kamp won on last year).

Sure Cort and Honoré are more logical bets, but Valgren is a sneaky and smart championship rider, who will come into the race very underrated.

For the Men, 224 km, cobbles, 15 laps with two hills per lap, first the easier climb to the Porte de Dunkerque, 1.9 km at 4%, irregular, with a max of 8%, then the one to the Porte d'Aire where the finish will take place: 1.2 km at 8% with a max of 15%, A vintage Alaf' should take it, but there are many punchers with a realistic chance.

Gods of Cycling, ride with Thibaut Pinot. Please. And maybe we'll get six more months of him and he'll ride LBL next year. And win it.

Yes, I know that I'm greedy here...but it's for a good cause.

All the profils!
Jeez, belgium, what’s the point of putting all the difficulty in the first 90k. I guess it’s merlier against WvA.

C’mon Pinot in France! Then we will get him for the 2024 season.

The problem is that there is no obvious alternative slot, because the demise of most of the American calendar means there is no moment when most of the US WT riders are in the US (unlike for Australia where the NC can form a block with the TDU). In fact the entirety of the non-NC pro American calendar (i.e. three one-day races in September) currently overlaps with the Vuelta. On the pre-Covid calendar it should have been bundled with the Tour of Utah though.

Lol @ Albania, where the federation didn't want Sefa to win so they dragged riders who didn't even complete the whole race back to him.
