2024 European Championships in Heusden-Zolder/Hasselt (September 11-15) Discussion Thread For All Races

Now there's a thread. You can find route details here, if you prefer to look at something else than ugly green LFR profiles: https://sanluca.cc/

Live timing:

I hadn't realised that France was skipping all the time trials today and the mixed relay tomorrow.

Basque sensation Paula Ostiz narrowly beat Fee Knaven to win the first gold medal at these championships. Knaven was however unlucky that she got caught behind Lara Liehner of Switzerland through some turns and roundabouts, but I don't know if other riders had similar experiences on the course. Viktória Chladoňová finished 3rd.

Segaert as expected beating the kids if he doesn't crash in the last part.

Well... kids, Mouris is older than him tbf
Why is he even riding U23? He has the age for it, but isn't it a bit silly when you finished 2nd in NC TT, and you are clearly too good for it. Was this because the federation first expected Remco or WVA or Lampaert to ride the TT, and thus Segaert has always been focused on U23, and changing this so late is too difficult?

Milesi's one-shot tt last year continues to confound me, I think Segaert just wanted some revenge tbh, he really took it to heart iirc.

Revenche against someone with the same name as the Milesi he lost again last year or?

You get your revenche at worlds, not at EC. Don't think anyone blames him for riding the u23 TT at worlds, Jan Christen will too (also roads btw probably, 100% favorite), EC is different.

Söderqvist wasn't close to winning this, but it looks like he paced himself rather well unlike some of the others. How did he gain 10 seconds on Segaert from T2 to the finish?

Segaerts seems to have faded or just eased off (no risks, there were some drips here and there), Mouris also won a little time and he didn't gain time on others anymore

But yes Soderqvist paced himself really well, his T1 was pretty slow. Interesting for later. Last part is way slower, probably the part to gain time on others. You need to keep something in the tank.

Oh yeah... saw 'Milesi - Italy' in the top 10 and forgot it wasn't the same guy, maybe he just wanted to farm a free win then, that or Victor Vercouillie has been training the last 21 years for this exact race and he didn't want to take his spot.

Tbf, already in 2022 Milesi was the only guy besides Wærenskjold to beat Segaert in an ITT during that season. The guy started cycling late after a football injury, but as a first year junior he was already 2nd in the Italian NC ITT, ahead of the one year older Tiberi, who would go on to win the MJ TT at the WC that year. He also did 2 decent TTs at the Giro this year and still has lot of room to improve, if you look at his postition and i don't know if Movistar's TT set-up is still good.
