It’s still not a professional race. I know riders who are participating without qualifying because they are friends with one of the organisators.
I think it’s more to get better recognition with some top road riders and later become more professional with quali races I guess.

For me it’s fun this year because I know all these roads and I don’t know any gravel pro rider. Otherwise I wouldn’t watch.

Van der Poel thankfully doesn't want to cooperate in an Alpecin love affair and chases Vermeersch. The route almost makes it a regular road race, if the riders would approach it like one too then there would absolutely be no point left.

If he rides his tempo from the cobbled climb on that steep section he’s gone solo. It’s way harder than it seems on tv.
