2024 National Championships Overview Thread

Id provide updates on the UK race, but the coverage is appalling, no idea where they are getting time gaps from, and Marty is waffling, we basically have a lone pro-am rider up front, 3 qtrs of a minute ahead of the chasing bunch of world tour level riders two laps of the course to go and Marty is talking about the Tokyo Olympics.

The jersey he was handed would be a purely podium piece of kit: I doubt Pejtersen would want to hang it on the wall. I suspect Skjelmose would be liable to a fine if he doesn't wear it in competition: he had better try to get into a leaders' jersey before the time trials in any races for the next year.
I don't understand the continuated fuzz.
Rules are rules.
Nuances are the devil's work which just brings a lot of bad things with it. Consequences may be hard, but consequences makes life simple.
And in Danish races - which Price-Pejtersen knows very well, taking advantage of bike paths has been a no-go as a main rule. Nothing new.
If he had an iota of professionalism - and since the National ITT was even a main goal of the season - then the most natural thing would be to review and inspect the technical details of the route post race and TO CLARIFY any ambiguities with the race management.

It will be much easier for himself, Skjelmose and all the Danish cycling fans to just accept the fact that there was a reason for the disqualification and then just move onto next page.

Less painful for all parties.

but nationals are ridden under UCI rules, this is the quirk most federations commissaires forget, and the UCI bike path rules are somewhat vague, and if as that linked article suggested other riders in the Danish ITT also used bike paths, and were seemingly forced to in some parts, but werent sanctioned for it, then I can understand the angst it has caused.

Im sure it will sort itself once people have calmed down and cooler heads prevail

I expected she would win it, so the jersey would still be in the peloton next season.

Majerus is retiring? :(

(BTW, did the Danish journalist actually call Mathias Norsgaard "Norsgaard Bjerg", or was she referring to Emma?)

Strong group with two Uno-X, Norsgaard, Greve, and some local riders getting away.
The duo that got away earlier is still in the front.

The peleton is riding a boring and conservative race. Nothing memorable or interesting about this race.

maybe it would be more interesting if we knew what was happening with proper time gaps and which riders were where on the road :)

they keep bigging up Frankie Hall in commentary, and Im sure its just because its a rider they recognise on the tv pictures, because thats basically the level of detail we're working with.

I have no issue with the coverage. Time gaps have been provided in the coverage. DSM have three riders in the leading group and they are pacing the peleton. Bewildering tactics.

theyve provided some time gaps, but its not clear where theyre measuring them as theyre not constantly updating them, there was one lap where they kept quoting a time gap which was just the gap at the finish line.

and like now they keep going back to a lone chasing rider, well ok how far back is she ? is she gaining ? is she likely to join this group at the front? or are we focussing on her because the front group are in that mobile coverage dead zone ?

and how far is there left to go, blink and you miss it and a caption occasionally might flick on the screen and if Marty sees it he might mention it.

now Sophie Wright has attacked, whats the gap? is it increasing ? (visually yes it is) but they dont look like theyre challenging to chase it down.

its just pretty basic coverage imo, compared to the other national races we can watch

With three laps over the Alto del Escorial the race in Spain is about to turn into a contest between Landa and whoever Movistar has designated as their man today. Apparently that's Pelayo, the man who dropped Remco with an attack on this very same roads last year in the Vuelta stage 20.
