Devil's Elbow needs at least 6th place among the teams in Frankfurt to take the win in this category. If he is 6th and Josedin 9th, I'm going to need to make up a tiebreaker. Unless I offer them the chance to do an Olympic high jump solution and both claim the win.

Overall
Devil's Elbow might be set for a Derek Gee here: second in multiple classifications. Satisfying to see that even with the game >95% done ther are still significant changes in placings, but what more will there be before we are 100% done.

Maybe there will be some time to check the leading teams against the Eschborn-Frankfurt startlist some time before May 1, but otherwise I hereby sentence Blues in the Bottle to 9 days of nail-biting.

Of the 1500+ teams:
BitB: Politt, Sheehan, Norsgaard, Capiot, Herzog
DE: Gautherat, Morgado, Capiot
DJW: Politt, Degenkolb, Morgado
Del: Politt, Naesen, Magnier, Capiot
Laarsland: Bennett, Busatto, Hodeg
Salvarani: Morgado, Magnier, Capiot

And for green:
Josedin: Van Gils, Rafferty, Pickering, Herzog

So, while it would take a minor miracle for BitB to be toppled, it looks like an unusually game-relevant Frankfurt provided the actual startlist is similar to the provisional one...

I would also like to point out that I was 18th overall and 11th for green after Roubaix, conversely our then-leader doesn't even make my overview. Proof that the hills can be as important as the cobbles?

Thanks for that startlist research.

I had obviously been a bit hurried in the last couple of updates: that sort of progress through the field would usually have caught my eye and been something I would have commented on.
It has not been the case every time, but there have been dramatic post Roubaix changes in the past. I think I remember Enrico Gasparrotto's Ardennes campaigns having been decisive a couple of times (but I might be misremembering).

I often say it is the balancing of race types in such a small squad that makes this game intriguing, but then teams based on just one or two riders like Sussannna's this year, or Evans' winning team last year sometimes can be strong.

If it is any consolation to you, DE, BitB was second in both classifications this year in the Spring Classics game, and look at what he went on to do in both the Main season game last year and in this one this! By that token, Derek Gee to win the Tour,Olympics and Worlds.

This, for me, is why this game is much more exciting than the GT equivalents, because there it's usually just a case of dumping three-quarters of your budget into GC guys and hoping for the best. An occasional Milan or Groves notwithstanding.

Somehow, I doubt that I have much hope of clawing back 1900 points on shalgo (and I'm still in 25th there... Their lead is nuts) in the main game, but unless I fall off the podium in Frankfurt it'll be my best finish in one of these games, so I'm happy with the way things have gone with or without consolation.

The changes in the race mean it is not simply a run off between sprinters who were too expensive to pick, one of us even had the winner.

OVERALL
And in pretty much the same way, Blues in the Bottle made sure that no-one came close to challenging his top placing by coming second in the final leg.

The rest of the podium (Devil's Elbow and DJW) is also unchanged, despite Slow Climber's late attempt. Josedin's late form gets him into the top ten.

Congratulations to BitB, second in this and winner of the Main Game last year, now winning by a handsome margin. I like it when the Green points classification is won by someone not necessarily in the hunt for the main prize, so well done to Josedin there, and honourable mentions to Devil's Elbow (x2), DJW and Sussannna for taking podium positions.

Thanks to everyone who joined in, and to CQ. I will try to get around to some analysis of the riders' contributions and other stats from the spreadsheet in a few days, but right now your priority ought to be getting your Giro CQ Game team sorted (if you have not yet done so) rather than a post mortem of your performance here.
