Van Poppel beat Kooij and Groenewegen in a bunch sprint.

Van Poppel keeps on doing the job of the sprinters he leads out. Interesting if Bora go for him or Meeus in stage one of the TDF. Kooij every chance, while Groenewegen did not want to go out in the wind which cost him.

Obviously they are going for Meeus. You think they take him to the tour just to not be the sprinter lol

Van Poppel has been wasted for years tho. Going for that leadout career is fine, but not if you don't do it for one of the best sprinters in the world and are fast and punchy enough yourself to win races.

Rapt to see Van Poppel win the title. He's had no top drawer sprinter to lead out since Groenewegen.

I'm happy for Danny. He was 4th, 3rd and 2nd before, and got relegated on this exact finish a few years ago. In my opinion he chose the leadout life a bit too soon, back in the day he was quite the prospect. This victory is probably the highlight of his career. Granted.

I hope Kooij will capture his jersey too in the future. It's bizarre how often RaboBelkinJumboVisma gets defeated in this championship.

52.1 kph by Mads Pedersen on a distance of 41 k. That's not bad, is it?
It's quite impressive. When Tony Martin won the Worlds TT in Copenhagen 2011, his average speed was 51.8 kmh. The course was a little bit longer though: 46.4 km.

But the most impressive fact is that the top 6 of the 2025 Danish nationals all had a faster average speed than Bradley Wiggins - the silver medalist in Copenhagen 2011! We've seen some crazy improvements in bikes, aero setup and aero positions the last 10-15 years.

Of course, the courses were not completely similar although both were flat: Copenhagen had some tricky sections in the city with a few cobbles and more sharp turns (Cancellara crashed, for instance). But Copenhagen did not have the winds we saw in Aalbog. According to DMI the wind was over 10 m/s from the west in Aalborg Friday. And this is confirmed by the intermediate times. Mads Petersen averaged just over 50 kmh from the 1st intermediate to the 2nd (from 7.8 km to 21.6 km when they were riding towards west, i.e. with headwind). However, he averaged over 56 kmh from intermedate 2 to intermedate 3 (21.6 km to 32.9 km) when he was riding with tailwind (assuming the intermediate times are correct). And there was no noticable difference in elevation in these sections.

So Mads Pedersen's avg. speed would perhaps be 53-ish kmh with a more moderate wind.
