My wife, I and 8 friends did this last weekend. I just want to say that if you love a great atmosphere, fantastic courses, and riding your mountain bike, make a point to do this race if you can. We did 2-5 person teams, but I think next year, my wife and I will either do a duo, or each solo. Super fast course, with not a ton of climbing (it was a pleasure riding a 16 mile lap with only 1000' <310 meters>of climbing.) Where we live, a flat ride is 1000' per 10 miles.

A well run event, and beautiful sunrises. Check it out.

To be riding bikes outdoors in February. Jealous.

Nice report. I've seen some race vlogs of this event from previous years on Youtube and they always look like fun.

It was nice to ride outside, for sure. We had to go back to Northern CA to snow for 3 days, so it was an extreme change.

It really is a great atmosphere! Lots of fun, and really great people!

Switching to a duo or solo next year sounds like a fun challenge. It’ll give you both a chance to push yourselves individually while still enjoying the camaraderie of the event. Plus, with the flat terrain you’re used to, it must have felt liberating to tackle that 16-mile lap with relatively little climbing. Thanks for sharing your experience—it's definitely inspiring for anyone considering a similar race!
