Riders I reckon can handle themselves on such a climb in GC:

1 Giampaolo Caruso
3 Oliver Zaugg +10"
4 Vladimir Karpets +14"
8 Samuel Sánchez +22"
9 Ezequiel Mosquera +22"
13 Vincenzo Nibali +27"
14 Robert Kiserlovski +27"
15 David Arroyo +29"
28 Igor Antón +55"
29 Cayetano Sarmiento +1'04"
31 Michele Scarponi +1'04"
52 Stefano Garzelli +2'19"

After last year's showdown on Lagunas de Neila, where Soler, over a minute back, escaped with Mosquera, but knew he had to drop the older man, but split everything down to Valverde, Danielson, Rodríguez, Masciarelli and Tondó behind... I'd say that everybody here has a chance of going for at least the stage win. Garzelli's out of the GC race, but any one of the others can still carry hope.

Sanchez for stage and overall then.

Good show by Possoni, makes you wonder how he didn't make the tour team with climbing like that.

He was carrying a knee injury from giro. What was top 10 ? Just at work can't find out much

Fantastic race there. I love that climb, and feel that it is seriously underutilised.

Agree completely. The sad thing is that I can think just now of 10-15 mountain tops that are even more difficult and spectacular in Spain, and which have been never touched by the Tour of Spain. In the region of Ancares and El Bierzo alone I can think of 5 incredible climbs in lenght and steepness, passing through spectacular areas.

And are the local authorities willing to pay for a Vuelta stage finish? Or is there even space to have a finish?
