I have to admit I don't know how Linus did in the Volta 2010, I just based my statement that he was in good shape off of statements from Monfort and F. Schleck that I read in interviews. The unofficial ranking from the LEOPARD TREK ITT up Puig Major during their training camp was apparently F. Schleck - Gerdemann - Monfort.
I mean whole the season, not the one race, all the more he rode Andalucia at the same time of the season. Several years ago Linus was maybe the biggest German expectation but now he's in the team to help Shlecks at TDF. He has started 2010 season with a win at Mallorca (Trofeo Inca), 9th place in the GC of Andalucia and a stage win at Tirreno, but that were the only noticeable results of the season (when btw Milram had to fight for the sponsors). So I think Gerdemann has to improve in 2011 to speak about the leadership, and imo he has to show his improvement in a bigger races, maybe Tirreno, Catalunya, Romandie, Suisse or Pologne. He'll surely have his chances, same as Monfort and Fuglsang. I do not call in question his ability to reach a top-10 at Algarve, it's possible, but i'm sure he has no special need (and abilities as well) of going for the win in Portugal.
Then look back at the Leopard lineup: Linus Genderman, Bruno Pires, Brice Feillu... The GC of Volta ao Algarve will be decided mostly in two stages: Alto Malhao (st.3) and 17.5kn itt (st.5). It's all clear with a tt, but Malhao is a short and steep climb. I can't see Linus riding strong on a such profile, and think if Bruno or Brice would be in form they'll have a chance to ride for themselves. I'm not talking about GC, but about something like a try to win a stage or maybe a KOM jersey.
