For some reason British Eurosport showed yesterday’s stage but isn’t showing today’s one. Somehow that feels more annoying than showing nothing,

Nothing to do with the race, but why the roundabouts with no... other roads? Just a way to slow down drivers/keep them alert, or are there other roads being planned?

Why don't they cultivate some vineyards, orchards... any kind of plantations...
Modest scenery, even though better than yesterday.

looked at the rest of the week and weirdly stage one was shown live yet at least until Thursday every stage is being shown on delay at around 5pm the day after.

I get that on Eurosport 1 they have the live Aussie Open Grand Slam tennis but on Eurosport 2 in the time slot that San Juan is being raced there is no live action being broadcast of any other sports.

2.3.035 The following rules shall apply:
5. Any other situation (prolonged closure of the barrier, etc.) shall be resolved by the commissaires.
This article shall apply equally to similar situations (mobile bridges, obstacles on the route, etc.)
That rule is for level crossings and similar obstacles that may cause a split or hold up different bunches of riders.

It’s an enormous stretch to apply it to a crash.

The rule under discussion here is 2.6.027.

Fairly convincing by Gaviria.
A good, clean, crash-free finish... satisfying day.

Second day in a row that they made the finish unnecessarily risky imo. Yesterday with the confetti and the bend in the last 50m after going straight for 20km. Today it was a nice, wide road which narrows the last 100m. The organisation definitely have room to improve.

He was pretty hopeless even before his crash last year, so... i honestly don't know.

seems to me that he is clearly very fast hence why he keeps being given opportunity to go for it by DQS but that his racing instincts are way below what is needed to consistently win in the Pro ranks where the margins are so tiny and any mistakes are punished.

I'm pretty surprised Hodeg is racing already - I thought he'd be starting his season fairly late after his bad injuries

No, this is not correct. It shows, that even for events not taking place within the final 3k (as was the case here), there are rules rendering the commissaires qualified to take such decisions. Obstacles on the road, can just as easily refer to a dog or a spectator, especially since the rule quoted by Red Flanders was not exclusive. The 3k rule says nothing about eventes taking place outside the 3k.

You might want to go and read the actual rule and all the bits that were clipped... it’s about level crossings and similar situations. That’s literally what it says. Feel free to try and explain how a dog is similar to a level crossing though...

Obstacles on the route. That's what it says. The article unfortunately doesn't specify what constitutes an obstacle (or what not), just that whatever applies to crossings and barriers, also applies to obstacles. I consider a dog on the road to be an obstacle. Like i would a cow, or a human or a tree. Basically anything that doesn't belong on the road and is big enough to obstruct a clear passage. A dog is similar to a level crossing, in the sense that as it holds up certain riders, and not others within the same group, it causes a time gap. Which is what this rule is for.
